I just found my Tyrannofex with Acid spray yesterday. I forgotten I even had it. lol
I see it lost the 2+ armor, gained shooting twice and it doesn't get hit with -1 for the heavy weapons.
I am not a big fan of bs-4 las-canons.
The spray looks to be better, but range while good for an ex-template at 18 inch a issue.
So questions.
Do you have to have a Pod to make the Acid Spray work?
Can you play it agressively moving forward?
Are people playing just in the back field.? 4d6 overwatch is no joke.
Any other tricks people been doing?
What statagems? Slime for extra damage?
I love to run the model but it competes with the exocrine and DakkaFex's or me.
Is he worth giving up the others?

I play with the Spray myself, mostly b.c the range Auto hits thats D3 damage. It does a lot more damage than you would think on the right targets.
Turn 1 i try to move it as far as i can, gants around it. Genestealers doing their thing, this gives the Tfex less threat.
If you set up in a good spot from turn 2+ you should have to move it for the rest of the game $d6 S7 D3 auto hits is insane damage.
Note: If they are HEAVY DSing or a Daemon/Nids player, then dont even move it, get Dbl shooting turn 1+ lol
Its not AT tho, but it is REALLY good against -1 to hit things and light vehicles like Venoms, Starweavers (it will easily kill one of those a turn). When look at damage output on a Rhino its only 7, but it will kill 5 Primaris Marines, or a Full 10 man Tac squad.

You asked it here, in the nid thread and on the tyranid forum. Found out how the overwat works yet?

It's failed pretty much every game for me. The Rupture cannon gets to shoot once and does okay damage - then it gets blasted by (Las cannons/Neutron lasers/ fire prisms) and dies relatively easy...just a 3+ save is not enough for this beast.
They need to change the acid spray to assault so it can shoot turn 1 because it will need to advance to do it. Also an invo/regen mechanic should be available for an upgrade. Far too easy to kill for it's cost is it's main problem though.

You can go crazy and use a Swarmlord with Onslaught to move it and double shoot. LOL, IMO thats so not worth it tho.
Edit: Oh and use the Stratagem to Shoot again whahaha, Move+advance + 8D6 shots

I don't think Onslaught would let a tyrannofex shoot twice after moving.
That power allows models to fire without suffering hit penalties for having moved/advanced (effectively the same thing as the Bio-Tank rule the Tyrannofex already has).
It doesn't mean the model counts as standing still though.

While that is all true his maximum range is 24". The closest your opponent will be to you, if he so chooses, is 24" No shooting turn one.
With adrenal glands and onslaught you can get 1d6+1 increased range. Not so much, but most lists run onslaught anyway, and it only costs you 5 for the adrenal glands. Once you are in range, copefully you can stand stil the next turn and get the 2x shooting.

Hi, a couple things:
The double-shoot applies only if you did not move, and only applies to the shooting phase.
So that means:
1. You fire 2d6 overwatch regardless.
2. Onslaught wouldn't help you fire twice after moving. It says ignore the penalty, but this is not a penalty imposed by heavy weapons, it is a hard "did you move" requirement in the statline.
Additionally, 18" is enough you do not need a pod. And he remains our best answer to fliers that shoots.

I was talking about not moving in the movement phase and then the SL moves you so you have DBL shooting, b.c the rules says if you didnt move in the movement phase lol. I find this completely worthless as i would rather move him or genestealers haha.

The Swarmlord gives you a move which replaces your shooting. You can't Swarmlord move + shoot.
