the question is who would make the baddest IC teamup for SM.  ie chapter master + librarian + chaplain.

I was thinking Grimnar with Mephiston and the ultramarine chaplain.  i guess the first question would be whos the baddest present chapter master + baddest present libraian + baddest chaplain.  i was reading deathwatch novel and it seem that they just have thebaddest troops put together so it got me thinkin.

If you're question is... who's the most overpriced independent character.... then the answer is definatly Logan Grimnar. And don't believe everything in the books kid...... aparantly a squad of terminators can cleanse an entire world.... so long as my heavy weapon platoon isn't anywhere close to it I guess.... or anything else for that matter..... And apparantle the chapter of grey knights was able to banish Angron and his daemonic legion on Armegeddon...... have you ever seen what happens when a bloodletter goes up against a grey knight? That's one dead grey knight...... Angrons legion consisted of 99 BloodTHIRSTERS...... and all the bloodletters you can eat..... yeah....... there's no way short of an exterminatus that could of stopped him in game.

Angron- crushing the theme and fluff of armies one horde at a time.

reminds me of this funny picture on the first page of the Demon Hunter Codex. those are 5 dead Grey Knights, 1 Inquisitor and his goons...

I counted atleast four bloodthirsters in that pic...... one of those could kill the entire grey knight squad

cmon a captain with a force weapon? he just neads to wound the bloodthirsters. but in game terms you would be right, i love the way in books you have a deathwatch kill team kill 100's of nids but in realiity (game terms) that would not happen

well, at least the point cost would be equal

The scene in the front of the book COULD be played with 500 points/side, IMHO - there's so many Daemons shown to represent a Daemonic Infestation. Playing for victory points, the GK player would even have a chance...

edit - maybe we're looking from the point of view of one of the icon bearers?

When soldiers think, it's called routing.

For that matter, in games terms those 'thirsters would have needed some Chaos Champions to possess. Angron would've needed to get some help from Alpharius to make them show up in the material world....

Oh, I dunno about that Angron fluff. That particular bit was written when all grey knights were deployed in terminator armor. The entire chapter you say? That's 666 grey knight terminators. Methinks 6.6 grey knights terminators per bloodthirster are MORE than enough to take him down.

ok lets get over the fact that in the original war for armagedon the grey knoghts fought bare bloodthirsters and demons, but what about the Sons of Russ led by Grimnar himself? they kicked angrons little beserkers boys ass.. Ulrick even got a salute from Angron himself, now thats saying something.

and it proofs that world eaters are not all total nutcases. maybe they really fight for the fighting, and not for the killing. actually that would make them interesting again

oh in game terms now I'll basically always take space wolves over berserkers....unless of course I'm taking a DP, BT, and 3 squads of BL's...... but those aren't really a berserker army. Back in the day of the rhino rush though..... Space Wolves never stood a chance against the berserkers

Methinks 6.6 grey knight terminators per bloodthirster are MORE than enough to get bent over by the bloodthirster...... did we forget mc's ignore termie armor except for that lousy 5+ inv.... add to that a legion to bloodletters and armageddon shoulda been destroyed.... orks or no orks.

what, space wolves armies i used at tournaments back in the rhino rush days ate beserker armies for breakfast..  space wolves were the leading assualt armies back then.  no other armies could assualt as well as them.

When I remember back in the days of 2nd edt............ snooore............... I could not remember a single person playing space wolves. But, everyone loved Blood Angels.

Anyhow back to the topic of badest independent character team up. Well fluff wise any two characters teamed up should be able to take down an army! But, because its gamesworkshop all independents suck. That's why I'm always disappointed when I read the stories to the characters. Because they seem so big and tough but not a single one (that I have tried in a game) has even been able to fight off a squad of troops by it's self. The closest I have ever gotten was when I used Azreal, Asmodai, and Ezekiel all at once and charged a plague marine termie squad led by a Great Unclean on. Even though they did rape the daemon and the termies I have never come close to that type of success since. And that was 5 years ago...

I remember people playing Space Wolves... It was usually That F@#&ing Guy, the one who refused to acknowledge that his Terminators couldn't have both assault cannons AND cyclones (despite the fact that it had been FAQed around seven different times), among other issues. Space Wolves got a real "cheese" rep from their 2nd ed. days, one that has only recently worn off.

As for ICs... I don't have much love for characters. My usual lists sport one Master, minimally outfitted, sitting in the backfield and granting Ld 10 to all and sundry. I find that much more useful than an overpointed, underuseful special character or an overkilling close-combat monster (since I use little in the way of close-combat, and he'd end up with no support).

As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely the result of wishful thinking.

But there's no sense crying over every mistake;
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

Remember thats 12-14 attacks each with strength 6 power weapons that go at the same time. They can also have a few thunder hammers thrown in for the same cost. My grandmaster has poped a bloodthirster every time he's faced one.

Are grey knights not I5?? they go before the bloodthirster then. so could potentially kill him before he strikes back. That why a grandmaster could possible do it himself with a force weapon provided the bloodthirster faild just one inv save

Lost, but i'll soon find myself!

So wait, do we count IC that arent Special Characters? If we are, I'd go with

A custom Blood Angels Librarian Epistolary with a Thunder hammer and force weapon, Familiar, Iron Halo, and Special Powers of Vortex of Doom and Might of Heroes.

Another custom, this time a Chaplain with a Grail, Lightning Claws, and Death Company (if they'll allow it)

And a custom Master Commander with a Thunder Hammer, Combat Shield and a Power Weapon.

Oh, and every person has a Jump pack, terminator honors, a Death Mask, frag grenades, Purity Seals, and Artificer Armor

That could just about own every other "trio-o-hero" out there, but it would cost 700+ of your army

2000 Tau (No Kroot)
2500+ Marines (Blood Angels)
2000+ IG (...plain i guess...)

true but despite the differences it would be a good teamup. but is there a better teamup? Maybe mephiston along with calgar and ulrick. to non codex special charcators who are very different with the boy in blue on the middle. "by the codex thats not how you kill chaos , this is how you do it"

Do Chuck Norris and Mr. T count as independant characters?

Dakka on World of Warcraft:

MANNAHNIN: I know two guys who have had to quit the game cold turkey because the time investment required by it caused problems with their family life.

JFRAZELL: So in other words, nature is self selecting out those not fit to survive and breed? Hail WOW replacing savannah lions since 1997...

Aren't Mr. T and Chuck Norris fighting mentioned on the last page of the bible? Something about "the end time"????
