Continuing with my narrative themed armies I am building an almost heretical army around my inquisitor. It's hoping to be a small allied force of just less than 500pts but I'm unsure what to add. The reason I come to the background thread and not the general thread is because I like to build narrative armies you might not see on your usual table (I'm like a travelling show man to all the ultramarine players who freak out when they see models they didn't even know exist) but have to be believable in the lore. It has to be unique (no named characters) but something I can write my own lore about.

I have 3 more elite squads to fill for my vanguard detachment and so far I have:

Warlord: inquisitor with inferno pistol (ordo hereticus)

Elites:
3 deamonhosts (took me a bit to find the OOP models XD).

What else would fit an elite force of an inquisitor who is willing to use deamonhosts?
I'm thinking maybe an astropath as like a henchman or something?

I would stray away from most Space marine chapters, Relictors could be a good shout for a radical inquisitor, they are excommunicate traitorus at the moment though but not Chaos, just renegades, would fit nicely.

If you want to go with an “almost fallen to Chaos” theme, then some AdMech standing in as non-Dark Mechanicus hereteks with some daemonically infused servitors could be interesting. If you want your inquisitor to be willing to use anything and everything to achieve his/her goals, then maybe mix things up with some xenos/abhumans. Jokaero work, but Tau counts-as guardsmen (Squats counts-as Space Marines is valid canon again so that works too) or mutant henchmen are choices. Scions are a classic choice for an inquisitorial retinue, but aren’t particularly exotic.

40k drinking game: take a shot everytime a book references Skitarii using transports.

I would want official 40k models with the imperium key word. So would pskers count?

No one would use demonhosts within some sort back up plan. I think an exorcist or other type of itinerant priest would be a good fit for your warband.
