I really like a lot of the models in the BA line, but I've never been a fan of the angelic wings some of them come with. Can I just not attach them ? Will someone accuse me of modeling for advantage? Technically their sillouttes will be smaller, but they aren't really designed to be hiding in cover anyways

Your models. Build them how you want. If someone has a problem with it don't play toy soldiers with them.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

My Sanguinary Guard didn't have wings when I bought them, but that was back when the unit was just a gold helmeted assault squad. I suppose I could see the argument for modelling for advantage in not using the wings on the current models but I'd personally have to be feeling very petty to try and complain about it myself.

Take a look at what I've been painting and modelling: https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/0/725222.page

The wings are disregarded when it comes to being in LOS or not. There is no case for "modelling for advantage".
You don't like them? Don't attach them.

Incorrect. The entire model is used for LoS. You're thinking of 7th ed targeting rules.

This is my concern, that they are in fact used for LoS and in a tournament will be turned away

There is no way to know. Different TOs set different standards. The only way to be sure a TO will be happy is to build them exactly like they are on the box.

But, I hate that gak. So I don't go for any Tourneys at all. I would rather be happy with my models then make concessions to appease some TOs i might play some games with once.

Wish it was so but with the gak rules of 8th ed if you can see even tiny sliver of those wings you can be seen and if you aren't inside terrain no help whatsoever as 40k troopers are so super snipers they can hit vital spot in your body just by that tiny sliver of wing.

Keep in mind, those rules only apply to tournaments. In friendly games none of the people I play with target wings, tips of helmets or gun barrels. In tournaments, plan to get targeted.
