Hey everyone,

Just wanted to ask for everyone's opinion or experiences playing the adeptus custodes as a single force in both competitive and non competitive environments. How have they performed?, do you consider using them as allies as the primary " Must have" way, let me know.

Cheers all.

I don't think you'll ever see them as fully competitive vs. normal armies, based simply on numbers and weight of dice. While they're the best small army in the game - they're still a small army.

They'll get a large boost with the Forge World HH/30K stuff when it arrives for 40K, but if anything...it'll make armies smaller. Imagine the huge mega-dreadnought they get. You'll be able to run a Custodes Army like an Imperial Knight army, maybe 6-7 models on the tabletop depending on what you pick.

So I don't think we'll "know" till the FW/30K stuff joins the line-up. My guess? Simply not enough dice/units.

The funny thing about them as allies is that doing so will likely be the bulk of your force in points, though certainly not models. A small battalion is probably going to be 1000+ points.

I think they've got game as a single force, but stand to benefit a lot from some help. Cheap bodies are the obvious draw, but I'd actually say what you should look for is efficient vehicle cracking. That seems to be the one big hole in their arsenal.

I see them as being most effective at certain point values. I run a 2k list with Guilliman, and then do fine.

I should clarify...in anything other than a serious tournament, I think they'd do fine. You can run damn near anything in a casual game and have fun, or do well.

I'd say you can reach mid tables with pure.

Allies you want one of two things: ranged vehicle destruction or psychic defense. You don't usually have the points to snag both and remain majority Custodes.

Played two games with them, and them alone, at 1,500, won both, one on the first turn, one on the third.

Their weakness is the inability to hold ground they take, in that they can take an objective, then either hold it or go and capture another - they lack the bodies to cover ground.

How good they are competitively will depend entirely on the scenarios you play
