So who is playing?
What are you going to get?
Rebels? Imperials? Who are you most excited for?
I'm getting 2 core sets, for a buddy and I to split. But I kinda like both the imperials And the rebels... decisions. decisions.

Waiting, it's like I'm interested but they basically went so bare bones for the initial release it's hard to get too excited for.
Especially since the two Imperial Corp Units use the same basic weapon and armor with changes between ability and Special Weaponry. Mostly I had wish they had gone with two heavy and two special units to even things out properly for choice.

Doing the same with a friend, splitting two cores. I'm hyped that there are other options for general other than luke/vader.

It's easy to assume that people arguing an interpretation you disagree with are just looking for an advantage for themselves... But it's quite often not the case. |

The funny thing is that I like wave 2 of the figures more than wave 1.
Snowtroopers? Best thing ever.
Standard rebel troopers with the vests and helmets? Awesome.
Snowspeeder? Cooler than the xwing.
ATST? Love it. (probably wont get it , but still love it)
I have a feeling that i will have the worst optimised armies ever, because i am just going to get and play models that i like the look of.

Giving it a miss, FFG seemed to have turned up a bit late, to the skirmish boom (IA was in a sort of midpoint between skirmish / boardgame imo)

I'd like to pick up the AT-ST, just for the model alone, so imperial for me - but it looks like it will be a while; I've got too many other games I should be paying attention too

I might get two starters just for some bulk Star Wars models for other games. Depends on if I get any money freed up in time.

I was going to spend heavily but have other commitments this month and the next. I'll probably still pick up the core set and a couple of expansions and see if I can generate some interest.

Hopefully my friend and I can get a few games in so we can get a good handle on the rules.

Read through the rules yesterday and got a handle on how it all works. Overall, looks like a solid little game. Nothing super unique or overwhelmingly exciting mechanics wise, but it looks competent and fun enough I'll give it a go.

I read some of the rules. It really seems like 40K with some improvements and typical FFG dice and cards. I may dip my toe into it, but I really think they missed the boat by not doing an epic scale game at 6mm. That probably would have been better with IA out there to cover skirmish level. Then you could use AT-ATs and speeders easier. Still, we will see if it catches.
In the meantime, I will await more Armada...
Thanks,
Duncan

Ground level combat without heroes isn't really what Star Wars is about.

They could still do heros in an epic level game, the would just lead a squad or pilot a vehicle. And they already had Imperial Assault for skirmish level with mostly heroes. Plus right now Warhammer 40K 8th ed is really popular so they are going up against something that is doing really well, not something that has people looking for the same thing but different. Just observations mind you. I still think Legion will do well, and there is an above average chance that I will buy into it on some level. If they make a Gungan Army kit I am all in baby. Bombad General Jar Jar...
Thanks,
Duncan

You could do it, but you're not going to generate the kind of excitement from a 10 mm Vader or Han you get out of a 30 mm one. I would have certainly liked a ground unit expansion to X-Wing similar to the way Epic rules expand out, but I think if you're making it a dedicated game you need to scale up to where the game can center on named characters.
I think Imperial Assault is a better size for this kind of game, but its also pretty clear that its run its course and won't be receiving new stuff. Even if Hasbro hadn't pushed the need for a dedicated minis game, that first year of Red Rover essentially killed any hope of the game landing as a competitive minis game. I really liked the idea of that one, but the execution was a pretty big miss as far as I'm concerned.

Played it tonight. It's better than I was expecting. The models aren't the best out there, but better than the pictures lead me to believe and have a really nice size to them.
I think Suppression is the game's secret mechanic. It's extremely influential and greatly alters the decision making in model activation. I am curious how much the game changes as the points increase, as the core set doesn't quite have enough to make the command cards super meaningful. I'm also not sure how much the heroes will be able to impact the game once there's more that can threaten them. The priority token actually makes the bidding less crucial than you'd think, as its pretty clear when a crucial bid is needed and who is going to break the tie. Not a bad thing, but more of an opportunity for players to take advantage of slower cards.... maybe.
The combat resolution has some very specific timing that's going to take a bit to get used to. Cover, in particular is all over the place. I'm a little worried that the game might lean towards static positioning, though, as cover is really, really strong.
Overally, its worth a try. I'm not sure what kind of game it will grow into, but it was fun, felt like Star Wars, and is almost certainly going to be popular for a bit.

My boxes showed up today.
I haven't gotten a chance to assemble them yet, (and won't for a few days) but I have to say the plastic quality and the detail on them are pretty good.
My buddy and I will probably play a few games over the next few weeks. After we get time to assemble them that is.

Use more, then. If all the cover elements are positioned more than a single move apart, then no-one is going to move, lest they get caught in the open. Does the game have any sort of crossfire mechanic, or overwatch?

You can Stand By to attack out of turn.
The objective is what forces you forward, along with weapons and abilities that defeat cover.
There's different deployments that change how close you start from each other, and the longest range in the game is 24" so you have to move forward to attack.
Suppression exists and any amount reduces your actions to 1. With a chance to clear it at the start of your activation.

Yup. That post was very much a result of the demo being very focused on the out of box barricades. In a real game you are supposed to use a LOT of terrain. It recommends about half as much more terrain as Malifaux does, though that's still less dense since its on a board twice the size. Still, the game definitely wants a lot of terrain and that helps keep units moving along with objectives.

I'm really surprised they aren't selling a terrain set right away. The game needs a lot of terrain and it seems like the perfect kind of product to offer now while the game is new.

I don't believe they intend to release terrain beyond scatter terrain. We already have barricades and the next release is moisture vaporators and crates.
The learn to play book even has a little section on how to scratch build buildings.
Someone asked earlier about crossfire/overwatch: There is a standby action that functions like the old 2nd edition 40k overwatch or overwatch in X-COM. You expend one of a unit's actions to give them a standby token. Then whenever an enemy unit takes an action within range 1-2 of the unit on standby that unit may spend the token to make a move or shoot action.

What are you talking about? If you take the insert tray from the box out and flip it over, you have a ready made, shiny black, mountain building thing. They thought of everything! (That must be what the insert is for, because it is fething worthless as a tray)
