Thanks guys I appreciate it
The gold recipe is:
- Undercoat with Retributor Armour spray (any parts you miss you can apply a thin base brown and go over them with a mid-gold - I used Darkstar Molten Metals Classic Gold which is a perfect match as Retributor armour from the pot has a different tone to the spray).
- Agrax the recesses for depth (neaten up with the base gold if necessary)
- Wash it all in Reikland Fleshshade Gloss - be liberal (a little goes a long way) but be mindful of pooling - gravity really takes a hold of the gloss wash.
- Apply Druchii Violet sparingly in the recesses to add more depth where you want it.
- Highlight the edges with Darkstar Molten Metals Fine Gold (any light gold or silver mixed with a tiny bit of gold)
- Vallejo Matt Varnish (applied thinly with a soft brush after 24hrs) to take the shine off.
I had to find a way to save time for the gold and the gloss wash works really well as you can avoid re-layering the gold. You could also add a touch of medium to basic Reikland Fleshshade and a little water for a similar effect.
Arbuckles Brown by Scale75 is also a great paint to add depth to gold if you glaze it in towards the recesses.
If you use a gloss wash you really need a good Matt varnish otherwise it looks horrible
