There is an inquisatorial item available to the Witch Hunters that says (paraphrase), "In missions with a board edge, perform a leadership check..."  It goes on to allow you to select your deploment zone. 

How literally should board edge be taken in this context?  Should the owner of the item be allowed to select deployment zone in say a quadrant based mission where 'board edge' isn't necessarily the order of the day?

Quadrants still have board edges. In fact, they have two of them.

This item is simply restricted from not working in situations such as "Bunker Assaults", where one side has fortified a specific location and is defending it from an attack by the other.
