Hi there,

As per the FAQ, it's advised that for matched play above 2001 points you should play on an 8ft table. Anyone regularly do this? Does it make a big difference?

It was like this even before the FAQ.

Problem is that 2000 point is a really bad point level to play at, since you are at the crossing point between 2 ranges of game size.

It's not that much of a surpise that playing at 2000 on a 6ft table feels cramped, it's the point level with the worst point to area ratio:

500 points : 4,608 sqr inches per point
1000 points: 2,304 sqr inches per point
1500 points: 2,304 sqr inches per point
2000 points: 1,72 sqr inches per point
2500 points: 1,84 sqr inches per point

Over this obviously it will get worst, but we are getting into apoc games.

In geneal having more area per point is a good thing for the game, so many prefer playing at 1500 points (which also cuts on the duration of the game). Below 1500 putting together a TAC list becomes a problem, and the games transforms into a costly rock/paper/scissor match (not that 1500 and 2000 are immune to this, but happens less often).

Also, it doesn't help that the missions are set on a 6x4, so if you change table format you need to reinvent the objective number and positioning.

Yeah, this is one of the reasons I prefer 1500.

It sort of depends what those armies are made up of, but yeah, I always ended up finding 3k games very cramped on 6x4, and my 1k/1.5k games feel just right on a 6x4. I usually find it's better to have a larger table than smaller.
