as in - before the whole "let's all become inhuman robots" business occurred.

I mean don't get me wrong, they apparently put up a hell of a fight against the Old Ones, but even then they were losing to them without their Star Gods or their metal bodies.

It just makes me curious if the Necrontyr would be able to stand up against any iteration of the Imperium, from Great Crusade to 40k...

Whiterun

Imperium wouldn't stand a snowflakes chance in hell against fleshy Necrontyr.

Goldilocks and his cronies may seem powerful, but the Old Ones where on such a completely different level of power that anyone who could even stand against them for any length of time could roflstomp all of humanity with ease.

Consider that the Necrontyr had been fighting a losing battle against the Old Ones until they contacted the C'tan and went fully robotic, and they STILL had a galaxy spanning empire with non-warp FTL and weaponry that made them think they could challenge the Old Ones.

It would be like the Imperium of Man attacking pre-fall humanity at its peak.

No. No it couldn't.

Necrons had toys which could switch off Stars.

Locate Terra, switch off/send Sol nova. Job's a good'un, and goodnight Vienna.

Pretty much this.

DAOT United humanity could take them on, possibly even win, but it would be a slim chance.

Could they? With oldcrons maybe but newcrons were meant to rival the Old Ones who in turn were above the Eldar Empire. In other words that's like having a squad of Tau versus all the Imperium in a single battlefield.

Oldcrons were also extremely technologically advanced, and were explicitly superior to the Old Ones in terms of weapons technology. What they lacked was mobility; the Old Ones just used the warp to appear where the Necrontyr were weakest, and that's how they lost.
Keep in mind that oldcrons had inertialess drives and didn't need to use the webway like a bunch of knife ears to get around. Something the newcrons lack.

The ancient Necrontyr literally ruled the galaxy for longer than any other race. If the whole Necrontyr empire in their height of glory were transported to the 41st millennium, they would crush all other races.

Then I have misremembered things.

The Dolmen thing is one of the stupidest things in newcron lore. Oh the race without any psychic ability? They use a psychic network to travel instead of science.

Tau don't have any way of going faster either. Newcrons used science to crack open the webway, hijacking their enemies creation. That counts a suitably cool and fluffy for me.

Tau scavenged Warp Drives. Necrons somehow built one of if not the most powerful empires to ever exist in 40k but couldn't make sciencey FTL. That's a bit dumb to me and what's more I thought them having absolutely 0 psychic abilities or warp interaction whatsoever was more interesting than somehow having them be able to break into the Webway for reasons not to mention that it's an awful method of transport for therm. It actively tries to kill and seal them in, is a complete labyrinth and they can't even attempt to maintain it.

As a military weapon, sure. As a dedicated means of transport though its terrible, as at the same time they are supposed to be capable of creating pocket dimensions and manipulating space and time. It makes no sense that they rely on the dolmen gates for transport. Not to mention that prior the retcon they already had a way of getting around.
The whole dolmen gates reliance thing is a poorly written, hamfisted attempt at giving them limitations, especially when you consider the fact that the damned thing tries to kill them and the necrons explicitly have other options to get around.
Deathmarks use a pocket dimension to get around. Why can't the other necrons use a form of this tech? It makes no sense.

Fair enough, I wasn't thinking about that. I don't know why they don't adapt that tech to fleet based travel. I'll have to look for the source, but I also think I remember reading somewhere that even though they didn't have Warp Drive, most of their craft were ridiculously fast in real space compared to an Imperial ship.

I definitely remember that but I think it was back when they had inertialess drive thingies. They basically shredded everyone else's fleets unless they were outnumbered by a fair bit as I recall.

Yeah, that was back when they had inertialless drives. It was also how they traveled long distances without using the warp.

Newcrons still have inertialless drives don’t they? Sure they were in a recent forge world book, they also have “worn hole” hats for lack of a better term which were in one of the heresy black books and deathwatch books, I’m aware the newcrons codex doesn’t mention the drives but that doesn’t mean they are no longer there.

In the new codex they are back to relying on Dolmen gates. There's a paragraph about it. Nothing about inertialess drives.

Well since they still have them in several other sources im gonna go with they still exist, codex fluff is bottom of the barrel when it comes to reliability
