Are Mutilators any good/worth taking?

My lists often have around 100 points to spare and I'm always struggling with what to squeeze in that slot. How do Mutilators compare to a melee Helbrute?

Mutilators, melee Helbrute, x3 Spawn, Skull Cannon, Vindicator, Bikers, Autocannon Havocs, and Flesh Hounds all fit into this 80-120 point slot. I'm just not sure which would make a good fit.

The Helbrute just kinda sits there as it's not very fast, so it might shoot something at some point and that's it. Mutilators will Deep Strike and then die the next turn as they've been shot at. They still suck but at least function better than a melee Helbrute.

I guess, completely unrelated...

How are Predators, Vindicators, and Skull Cannons?

Between a Vindicator and Skull Cannon, which would you prefer? Vindicators aren't much more and seem better against vehicles, but I with d6 shots against infantry of 5+ I can see the Vindicator being just as useful against infantry. Maybe S10 is unnecessary against infantry. The Predator is a lot more expensive than either of the other two, but can deal a lot more damage.

Skull cannons are fantastic anti-infantry artillery that are SUPRISINGLY tough and have no degrading stats. Vindicator is good for anti-super heavy and land raiders..And thats about it, and predators are just a main stay. In a normal list that doesnt include daemons, Preds are almost always better than Vinds.

Also, Mutilators are meh. Theyre ok when paired with Khorne Daemon buffs and pretty great for Fabius Bile.

They might work passably if they were allowed one per unit. Then instead of dropping three down in one unit, you can drop three separate mutilators in three separate locations. As it is, they aren't good. Threats they want to kill have time to run away from them unless they manage to charge into combat after they drop in (which is always iffy at 9 inches). And if they fail that charge...

They have far better alternatives. Like if you want to deep strike something down to do massive melee damage, might as well go with a blood letter bomb.

If you want to go the transport route, a land raider is too expensive for its points. For transported melee, Berzerkers in a Rhino are so much better than mutilators in a land raider. And you will do far more damage for your points.

So, no. Mutilators aren't very good right now. I think one of the other choices you listed would be better.
