The rule on skimmers in CoD is that they can not go in to buildings, although would they be allowed to if they took sensor spines, thus allowing them to take buildings?

Drano doesn't exactly scream "toy" to me.

sensor spines allow a skimmer to enter area terrain. if the building is classified as area terrain then they may enter. as to actually taking the building, that i'm not sure of.

If the thought of something makes me giggle for longer than 15 seconds, I am to assume that I am not allowed to do it.

At least locally, we class all buildings as area terrain (size 2 or 3). It saves on a lot of 'but I can see your sleeve through the window if you look at it like this.'

That seems to be a pretty common consensus, and would make mech tau not so goofy in CoD. Cool

Ruins are area terrain - intact buildings are not.

So a Tau skimmer with Sensor Spines may move through ruined buildings with no penalty whatsoever ?

Actually, Sensor Spines allows skimmers to move through terrain features.  As such, yes, they may move through ruins to their heart's content.

However, this still doesn't allow them to claim buildings in CoD.  Skimmers are specifically prohibited from entering or occupying ruins (CoD, pg9).  Sensor Spines allows them to now enter those ruins, but it provides no exemption from the occupation part.

Wicked, I'm glad I won't have to deal with the turn-6-objective grab by nigh-indestructible skimmers

Another point re skimmers: in the old cityfight, there was a 'flying high' rule that allowed skimmers to target anything and everything on the board (and be targeted by anything). I don't recall seeing that rule in COD - is it there and I missed it? Or have they thankfully gotten rid of it this time around?

Cool, just so long as my Piranhas can enter ruins I'm happy. The actually taking will be left to Kroot and Firewarriors.

Or I'll just play my Night Lords (damn they are soooo über in CoD, 2+ cover save anyone ?)

No such rule.

However, skimmers can still end their movement over ruins and, because of the CoD line of sight rules, see over any intervening ruins that are lower than them (but only to models in upper floors of ruins that are unobstructed by intervening smaller runis).

I think you guys are wrong about Skimmers with Sensor Spines being able to enter buildings.

Under the regular rules, no Skimmer may enter terrain, their default ability is to simply hover over it, as described in the main rules.

The Cityfight rules state:
Skimmers may not enter or occupy city ruins, but they may hover over head as normal.

Now, since the default ability of Skimmers is to never enter terrain in the first place, then obviously this rule was put into place to prevent special rules and wargear, such as Sensor Spines from being useable.

The Sensor Spines allow you to enter all normal terrain, but City Ruins have special rules preventing all Skimmers from entering, even when equipped with such special rules and wargear, otherwise why bother putting that rule in the Cities of Death book at all?

Thats the same argument as with the Drones, why did Gw bother to write the rule if they didn't mean it to exclude something ? IMO: wait for the FAQ and in the mean time use house rules.
