Have to say I'm feeling pretty disheartened right now. Went to a lot of effort to dig out my old terminator captain, strip the paint and rebase him on 40mm. Plan was to run him alongside my Dark Vengeance terminator. I've literally just but them beside each other and they look ridiculous next to each other

I remember when that was the biggest power sword GW had ever made. Maybe a strategic rock might give him a boost?

Looking at the models together, the most noticeable difference is the size of the legs. And that's only from up-front at eye level.

Abaddon, one of GW's oldest miniatures, is regularly featured in my armies. I don't have a problem with his size, in part because of how he's spread out. This model has similar proportions with the gun and the sword. I have a feeling it will look okay when everything's painted up.

Yeah I was expecting an actual "old" miniature. In the OP I don't see what the big deal is...it's quite obvious they would have different size suits of Terminator armour - no big deal.

It has ALWAYS been thus.

Old minion looked small next to the 2nd ed plastic terminators (which became the default terminators until they were redone in 3rd ed).

3rd ed metal terminator looks small next to current ones.

9th ed one will be in primaris terminator armour and still look small.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.

This.

Another trick I've found in embiggening older minis when mixed in with the newer ones is to place a smaller base directly on top of the on it's on (so a 32mm base on top of that 40mm one for a Termie) and cover the whole thing in sand (or whatever you base it with). It raises them up to the same height as current minis.

all my black legion stuff is old so i havent noticed a size difference with Abaddon yet but imagining him next to these Deathwing Termies i can see there would be a difference alright.

Another handy trick is a layer of 1mm plasticard glued to the feet and trimmed to provide a thicker ‘sole’ to the boot. Adds so much it’s untrue.

For me, the joy is in putting some good-looking models on the board and playing out a fantasy battle - not arguing over the poorly-made rules of some 3rd party who neither has any power over my play nor will be visiting me (and my opponent) to ensure we are "playing by the rules"
