Subject: Changing paints (from citadel -> to army painter), and a question!

Hey there fellows, I've been recently planning to change my paint selection, and now I m asking, is it easy to change habits also? Reason for this are that citadel paints go dry very quick, the cheaper price and the use of a pallette (which allows morr techniques). I've been painting for 20 years now, straight from the bottle, so I'll guess this changes alot.

It can take a little practice to get used to how much paint to put out, but other than that there's not much difference.
Oh, and Army Painter paints tend to need considerably more shaking than GW paints... Shake, shake, shake some more, and when you think you've shaken it more than is needed, give it another shake. Picking up some small stainless steel ball bearings or colourless glass beads to drop in the bottles can help with this.

Wouldn't you solve all three of these problems simply by using a pallette with the GW paints and thinning them with a bit of water? Or if you're feeling adventurous, using a wet pallette?

There's no reason to change your entire range of paints, just get the colours you like from the manufacturer that makes it. You may VERY occasionally get an issue mixing paints from two different manufacturers but we're talking 1/100 or less.
I'd certainly recommend both a wet and dry pallette for any manufacturer's paints. They're both important tools, as important as your brushes and undercoat really as they let you control the fluidity of your paint which you just can't do straight from the pot.

Yes, just use multiple brands at the same time. There's no reason to use only one of them.
I put all my GW paints in small dropper bottles, and don't have any drying problem. But I also know many people who don't have any drying problem (up to a few years) keeping them in normal Citadel pots.
As for shaking, I think Citadel paints require less shaking because their bottles are wider, and shaking is more efficient in them. The colors I put in dropper bottles seem to require the same amount of shaking as the ones from other brands (which are is similar paint pots). And for narrow bottles, rolling them between your palm (as fast as you can) is usually better than shaking them in an up-and-down motion.

Never had so much of a problem with GW paints but have just bought a new jigsaw so I can convert the old one into a paint shaker.

Whoa, a lot of replies came, thank you guys. I've had so many problems with gw paints, that now is a good time to try something diffrent. One thing to consider is that army painter products are cheaper than citadel. My citadel paints mostly have their bottle lids left a little bit open, so they dry very quick, and thats been a very annoying problem for many years. Another thing is their paints consistency and tone.
