I've not had much success with static gunline T'au so I'm trying to put together some mobile gunline lists. With the help of a friend, I developed the following core to my list, which will essentially be two battalions and a 3rd detachment depending on how I want the list to turn out.

Core:

42 Cadre Fireblade
42 Cadre Fireblade
174 QFC Coldstar
174 QFC Coldstar
42 Strike Team x6
42 Strike Team x6
35 Strike Team x5
35 Strike Team x5
50 Kroot Carnivores x10
50 Kroot Carnivores x10
112 Devilfish
112 Devilfish

910 Total

That leaves 1090 points for the "killy" portion of my list. Right now I'm torn between three options:

697 - Longstrike & Friends (Longstrike +3 Hammerheads w/ Ion Cannons & SMS): The flavor of the month. Longstrike can also take the Rail Cannon for mortal wound goodness. The upside of this element is that it leaves nearly 400 points to round out with things like Pathfinders or drones, as well as a third QFC Coldstar. Alternatively, You could ditch the carnivores for two more squads of fire warriors and a third devilfish.

816 to 840 - Triptide. Depending on the loadout, the points will vary. I ran Velocity Tracker and Advanced Targeting System at the last tournament I played at and the VT was mostly useless as I didn't play against much with the Fly keyword. My current loadout is VT & Target Lock, though trading out the VT for ATS bumps the points to 840. In any event, with the VT/TL loadout, there's enough points for 10 shield drones and a 3rd QFC. Alternatively, you could run a cheap commander (quad CIBs/ trip CIBs & ATS) for more shield drones.

800-ish - Dual Surge. Less mobile than the preceding two options, and comes with the added burden of having to take up two detachment slots for a tournament list. That said, it is very killy. You could drop it down to a single Stormsurge and try to finagle points for Longstrike & Friends.

Thoughts?

I would go with something like this:

Tau Battalion

ColdFusion
Fireblade

3x5 Strike teams

twin tide
2x5 shield drones

Sa'cea Battalion

Cold fusion
fireblade

3x5 strike team
3x marker lights

5 pathfinders
pulse drone

Bo'rkan Vanguard

Fireblade

Ion Ghostkeel x2
Firesight marksman

5 shield Drones

Pretty sure you should still have some points left over - maybe sprinkle kroot.

No lie, I thought I read the title and saw it read
"ITC Mobile Gundam" lol

I don't know Tau, just wanted to share that.

The Silver Lances: 4000 pts
The Custodes Winter Watch 4000 pts

Sternguard though, those guys are all about kicking ass. They'd chew bubble gum as well, but bubble gum is heretical. Only tau chew gum.

The double surge seems practical as anchors.

No thought on an xv109.
