Trying something new allying my Guard with Custodes until my beloved Sisters can keep up again.

I’m looking to be as lean and efficient as possible, with scoring and units that can take on both hordes and 3+ Knights. Tell me if I’m getting there—->

Vanguard Custodes
160 Shield Captain, Jetbike (Auric Aquilas, Victor of Blood Games)
810 (3x) 3 Praetors, Jetbikes

Bn Detachment Tallarn
30 CO, (Warlord- Grand Strategist, Kurov’s Aquila)
239 Tank Commander, Punisher Gatling, Lascannon, 2x PlasCannons, SB
135 (3x) Infantry Squads, 3x mortars

Bn Detachment Tallarn
31 CO, Bolter (Dagger of Tu’Sakh)
241 Tank Commander, Battle Cannon, Lascannon, 2x PlasCannons, SB
125 (3x) Infantry Squads, 1x mortar
228 (3x) Commando Squads (12), plasmaguns

Start with 14 CPs, after Relics and 2 Guard Ambush strats I have 4 CP to start (before rolling to get some back).
I have 17 drops, 8 of which start off-table for beta-goodness (both Leman Russes, the 3 plasma command squads, the naked CO to give the plasmas re-roll Orders, and 2 Guard Infantry Squads for outflank screening / grabbing).

Basic strategy is move move move- Guard in the back shooting mortars with the WL while Custodes led by the amped-up Shield-Captain engage the juiciest targets. Outflank forces come on where needed so as to avoid getting alpha shot, both Tanks can be ordered to move after shooting or re-roll 1s. The 12 plasma Commandos with reroll orders can target whatever needs to go down. Two outflanking infantry squads either screen or grab objectives as needed.

Am I lacking somewhere? I just started with Custodes, is this the best fit for this type Force?

To take company command squads you have to have company commanders so the 3rd squad in the list is illegal. Also I don’t know if you can take relics not associated with your warlords army (not sure)? But here’s how I think you can change it a small amount so it’s legal (I left the relics in) 1 HB instead of Lascannon on the tank commander and -1 command squad +2 special weapon squads with plasma.

Actually, the Tank commanders also count as Officers for the purpose of taking command squads. Prior to the rule of 3, I would take as many as 4 Command Squads.

The Relics can be bought with the Vaults Stratagem during deployment using CP even if they’re not in the faction with the Warlord. Hence, I don’t get the first Relic for free as does my (Warlord) Imperial Guard faction but rather have to pay 1 CP for it. If I had a second Character and wanted to take 2 Relics I’d have to pay 3 CPs for it.

Hmm my locals have been doing it wrong, I’m gonna have to look for it and show them.

It’s a solid list though, When you fight Ik those bikes are gonna be gold focus on keeping them alive

I play itc quite frequently as well, one thing I started doing is tailoring my list towards secondaries I want to score, AND against giving up secondaries too easy.

What secondaries are you aiming for? Recon and behind enemy lines are quite possible with the bikes.

Right now reaper and gang buster are secondaries that are possible for your opponent.

Just out of curiosity: why tallarn? I dont play IG so I am quite ignorant to regiments besides Cadian and catachan.

What ranged weapons are you giving the custodes?

Also, and it is personal, but if you have extra points you might as well give your infantry sgt's boltguns...
