I don't know much so all I can suggest is first get the Age of Sigmar app. It's free. Then download the rules off GW site. It's free as well.

You get the warscrolls for free so once you get the app and hopeuflly it's not buggy you can see what your army does. If that doesn't work, just go on the GW website look for the minis there and you can get the warscrolls from their if you don't have the app or it's not working.

Do that first, costs no money up front. Then from there if you get use to it, you will need the General's Handbook 2018 (came out last week) for the points.

*edit*

Hope this link works for you.

If not, just go to GW web site. Click on Age of Sigmar, then look for the Chaos alliance on the left side, click it and you should see Slave to Darkness. Click on that and you will see the minis. Click on them then you should on the right side see the rules for them.

While the rules for AoS might seem lacking lots of the rules are on the warscrolls for the units. That will tell you what your units can do. If it doesn't say it, then it can't do it.

Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.

Everything is made up and the points don't matter. 40K or Who's Line is it Anyway?

there allegiance abilities, artifacts, traits etc are in the Generals Handbook 2018. The Warscrolls you can get free on the GW site or on the Age of sigmar app.

This is the correct answer. We don't have a battletome for StD at the moment, but all of the points/abilities/artifacts are in the GHB. I recently finished the SC box for StD, the models are awesome. Love the classic Chaos look with round bases. Knights had their cost knocked down from 200 to 160 per five, as did the warshrine. The SC box will give you a solid 580 points with three battleline units if playing with a StD allegiance.

Thanks!! So, are StD more of an alliance army (the add ins) or can they be viable on their own, albeit, not T1 list, on their own, and using the marks available to us? Being away from the game for so long, I am trying to figure out how it all works again... Honestly, I dont want to go bat sh*t crazy at this point, just incase I am not 'feeling' them... but to me, they kind of remind me of my BT from 40k, my, how I loved playing BT.

So basically, I am not looking for a horde army (to much to paint and to big a pain in the rear), I dont want T1 (I am not into the GT scene or any major), StD seems like they are a here I am, I am not shooting, but I am going to run over your butt kinda army... maybe I am way off base, IDK......

If anyone wants to kinda give me a 2K army thats balanced and fun, I am all ears!!!!

Thank you so much

I'm from the future. The future of space

Don't discount 1000 point games. They're great fun in AoS.

As for where to go with the army, do you have a particular chaos god that you like? Because if you can give the models you choose all a keyword for the same god then you can take the more specific allegiance abilities, artefacts and so on.

"If all the starting units and warscroll battalions in your army follow KHORNE – including any units that you assign the KHORNE keyword to during set-up – then your army has the KHORNE allegiance. An army with the KHORNE allegiance – sometimes known as a KHORNE army – can use the potent allegiance abilities found on the following pages."
Blades of Khorne page 78

Maggotkin of Nurgle has similar text on page 58. Disciples of Tzeentch has it on page 72. In the GHB2018 you'll find the same sort of allegience stuff for Slaanesh on page 122.

So if you did want to go with one specific god you can. Chaos Warriors and Chaos Marauders are generic chaos battle line, so as long as you can give them the mark (which gives them the keyword) at setup they'll satisfy the requirements.

On page 69 you'll find the allies table so if you do want to include a bit of stuff that isn't dedicated to that one god, you can. You just won't be able to include the stuff from the opposing chaos god. Like no Slaanesh marks in a Khorne army. These allies won't get the larger army abilities and depending on the wording may not be effected by other abilities as well. 1000 points or less is 200 points of allies, 400 points at 2000.

I don't know the competitive side of things enough to advise on a 2000 point army though. Maybe check out tga.community (another forum dedicated to AoS)

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Apparently some people paint their slaves to darkness in generic heavy metal album cover type colours that don't particularly scream any particular chaos god and then have standard bearers for all the different gods for each unit (or use tiny rare earth magnets). The standards are painting up in a bright and obvious colour and there's no confusion as to what the mark is for the unit.

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better.
