i have some @8mm Historic miniatures i want to use for AOS perviously i used them as empire for Warhammer fantasy . my question is would you allow someone to play fully painted and based minis sligtly shorter than the publishged ones? i will alwaysgive my opponents the benjifit of doubt as if they were taller.

Yep we have a couple people in our group that do just that, and they are on square bases to boot.

I'm from the future. The future of space

I've seen lots of frostgrave barbarians with extra chaos shields as marauders.

I say go for it.

Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better.

Unless you're planning on playing at a GW store (and even then, some don't mind) or most "official" tournaments, you should be fine. Many official events (and even semi-official) and GW stores require GW-only models, but at random FLGS usually it isn't a problem.
