Hello,

<?

Im making the move from IG to SM and love the big shooters- of course why I played guard- but its time for a change and had some questions about the space marines Dreads. Not things that make space marines feel bad, just the old guys in the walking coffins.

Dreads- you could field 3 (E) and take a ?trait? to field 3 more (HS).

1) What is the most you can field?

2) Are the VER-Dreads worth it?

3) Are the mortis dreads worth it? Is this specific for a chapter? I did not see the rules for fielding this in the book (mind you I got it yesterday, so im going through it)

4) Would you normally allow a siege dread in a game? I like the idea of a dread with an inferno cannon- one of my       favorite IG weapons.

5) Is there a way to field only dreads? I know sounds crazy but I like the idea of a SM Mecha force-

6) Allies, is there a way to take deamond hunters and SM allies with both dreads present? Not necessarily battle smart, I just want to know if it?s possible.

7) Who really uses a tech priest? I the traits section I see where you can field one as the general? I don?t see this as really smart but there has to be some kind of tactic to it with the ability to take so much armor.

Thanks

1) What is the most you can field?
This is still under debate, but leaked FAQs indicate up to 6. Don't expect it to be freely allowed until the English sites get the new FAQs, though.

2) Are the VER-Dreads worth it?
Venerable Dreads are worth it, in my opinion; it gives them a valuable extra durability.

3) Are the mortis dreads worth it? Is this specific for a chapter? I did not see the rules for fielding this in the book (mind you I got it yesterday, so im going through it)
Mortis Dreads are Dark Angels only.

4) Would you normally allow a siege dread in a game? I like the idea of a dread with an inferno cannon- one of my favorite IG weapons.
Most people won't.

5) Is there a way to field only dreads? I know sounds crazy but I like the idea of a SM Mecha force
No.

6) Allies, is there a way to take deamond hunters and SM allies with both dreads present? Not necessarily battle smart, I just want to know if it?s possible.
I don't think so, but I'm not a Grey Knights expert.

7) Who really uses a tech priest? I the traits section I see where you can field one as the general? I don?t see this as really smart but there has to be some kind of tactic to it with the ability to take so much armor.
I don't, but some people swear by the ability to repair damage. It's up to your taste.

As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely the result of wishful thinking.

But there's no sense crying over every mistake;
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

The answer to #6 is no.

In a Daemonhunters list, you cannot mix regular Space Marines with Grey Knights (you need to take a GK hero to be able to take the dread, and you can't take any GK units if there are Space Marines in the army list).

In a Space Marine list, you cannot take any Heavy Support choices from the DH codex (which is what the GK dread falls under).

2) Are the VER-Dreads worth it?
Absolutely. The look on your opponents face when you force him to reroll those damage results turn after turn is worth the price alone. Actually saving your dread from destruction is just a bonus.

3) Are the mortis dreads worth it? Is this specific for a chapter? I did not see the rules for fielding this in the book (mind you I got it yesterday, so im going through it)
DA only. The rules are in Imperial Armour (2?)

4) Would you normally allow a siege dread in a game? I like the idea of a dread with an inferno cannon- one of my favorite IG weapons.
Sure, why not. I don't see most people having a problem with it, unless of course you didn't let them use their shiny new Forgeworld tyranid gargantuan creatures when asked. Golden Rule and all that jazz...

5) Is there a way to field only dreads? I know sounds crazy but I like the idea of a SM Mecha force
Sure.... play WARMACHINE.
But seriously, no. Not without writing up your own custom codex anyway. Deathwing would be the closest, IMO. All Dreads and Termies, dropping from the sky...mmmmm.

7) Who really uses a tech priest? I the traits section I see where you can field one as the general? I don?t see this as really smart but there has to be some kind of tactic to it with the ability to take so much armor.
Fluff, my friend. Fluff.
Tactically? I have no clue. I've never even read his stats...
