Depends a bit on your target, but generally the Hot Shot will math out a little better. Against a marine it has a 22% chance of a hit causing a wound, Vs 16% from the bolt pistol.

In reality you're making at most 2 shots with it, it literally doesn't matter.

Plasma pistol, because for a mere 4pts more you may as well take all the firepower you can get.

Especially since it's less than half the cost of a rifle and you know they'll be in range to use it.

Plasma pistols, always, unless you don't have the spare 4 points. Otherwise it doesn't matter which one you pick, because you are probably only getting one shot off the entire game (bolt pistol is liklier to be in range, hotshot packs more punch, so preference).

Dark it was, and dire of form

and earned the name of slayer

Bolt Pistol for the range because otherwise if I was close enough to use a HS Laspistol then I would be throwing a grenade instead.

You can't throw a grenade in melee though!

The range is a valid issue still, specifically because you can't shoot it immediately on deep striking. So chances are slim that the small average damage increase over the bolt pistol ever makes up for the missed round of shooting.

All said, Plasma is definitely the one if you can afford it!
