I'm not 100% sure what to take against my buddy's 2500pt DG list. From what I know he plans on using;

Mortarion

2 foetid bloat-drones with plague spitters (I regret informing him how good they are lol)

2 or 3 myphitic blight haulers(most likely 3 for the +1 BS)

2 plagueburst crawlers

A sorcerer

Chaos Lord(or maybe another sorcerer to save some pts for other stuff

probably 40 pox walkers

Some other troop choice

Thats what I know he will more than likely use leaving him with about 500pts for other stuff. Possibly a hellbrute and a couple other things.

This is the list I wanted to play before learning of his plans to use 2 or 3 blight haulers because I wanted it to be good but not too cheesy. Now I'm not sure its cheesy enough

Cryptec w/chronometron

Catacomb command Barge(just worked out well with the points I had left over)

(2x) 10x immortals w/tesla

10x immortals w/gauss

(2x) 6x destroyer squads

6 wraiths

2 Doomsday Arks

2 Doom Crescents

This is all a Sautech battalion. With all that T7 and t8 I'm not sure I have the fire power to bring it all down before he overruns me. I fell the weakest parts of my list are the Doom scythes and catacomb command barge. I don't have a 3rd DDA otherwise I would definitely add that. What kind of changes would you guys make and/or what kind of strategies?

I'd drop the Doom Scythes to start.

After that, you need probably scarabs to screen against smite and MW spam.

With the points remaining, maybe something to try and speedbump anything that gets too close to your shooting elements, wraiths perhaps.

Yeah thats kind of what i thought about the Doom Scythes, I just hate them sitting there and collecting dust. Scarabs are a good call and I already got 6 wraiths. What about some flayed ones teleporting into his back lines?

I want to like FO, however, they run into the issue of 9 inch charge to make it in to something. That, and they are likely to bounce off a lot of things since death guard tend towards having good saves. Ideally, you'd get them into the poxwalkers, and they'd do a number on them, but they are really, really niche.

Trust me, I used to run drop cavalry crons, my night scythes disappoint me every time I run them now. It'll turn around eventually...

Other than that, some heavy destroyers might be good as well, or a destroyer lord to pal around with the 12 destroyers you DO have to give them reroll 1s to wound if you run out of CP to fire Extermination Protocols on them.

Unfortunately i dont have any more destroyers to take heavy destroyers in addition to the ones i have in the list. It is probably a good idea to take 6 of them instead. I didnt realize a destroyer lord gave reroll wound rolls of 1.

Yep! D-Lords let destroyer units within 6 inches reroll 1s to wound.
So, 1 squad gets EP, the other rerolls 1s to hit and 1s to wound.

I'd use the EP guys to blow up a vehicles. Use the other group to mow down plague marines.

I played a death company list with my necrons in the last local tournament, it was the most lop sided game of the day in my favor. We were at 1500 pts, but what was really carrying the list was i had a large screen of scarabs, a deceiver, a transcendent ctan, and a big blob of 20 warriors w/ cryptek. Cryptek and warriors were decived onto a center objective and i used the stratagem to give +1 to their save rolls (dont underestimate the staying power of 20 t4 3+/4++ with 4+ reanimation protocols and ignore moral). Then i moved everything forward, unleashed ctan powers, used stratagem to use another ctan power giving me 4 powers out in the first turn, then hid behind the scarabs / warriors on his turn of fire. 2nd turn i charged in with both ctans and a ccb with lightning field / warscythe and proceeded to pound his blight haulers into dust between the powers and the cc capabilities. Deceiver fists at a flat d3 damage is brutal. He did manage to kill the transcendent ctan, which blew up and killed his sorcerer, but at that point i had won.

With your list i would look at ctans if you can. Deciver / nightbringer are a nasty combo.

Ok so heres my new list. Got rid of the doomsday scythes and 6 destroyers and added a destroyer lord, 6 heavy destroyers, night bringer, and changed out the CCB for imotech the stormlord. This way I get 7 command points and 2 my will be done commands for the 2 tesla squads. Having a little trouble deciding on ctan powers but thats not a big deal. Might have a little trouble with objective grabbing but at least I can use the veil of darkness to grab one I may not otherwise get.

Heavy destroyers are not as good as regular ones, but otherwise i would give it a try. Looks like a good start to me.

Normally i would 100% agree with you but with the abundance of t7 and 8 i feel like i dont have enough high S weapons to deal all of it
