First off, por que no los dos? Combi plasmas aren't gunner only. Really the only "this or that" is the infernus HB and the frag cannon, and if you have to pick one or the other of those I'd advise the frag cannon as a somewhat better TAC option. I do run both though.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

Seems like Plasma is all the rage in 8th edition (and therefore Kill Team). But, the Frag Cannon seems like such a nice gun as it auto hits. Didn't really look at the the Infernus Heavy Bolter... I will do that now. It's honestly been so long since I touched my Deathwatch models, I had forgotten what weapons they came with.

Plasma is pretty solid in KT on anyone who can take the Sniper specialty (reroll 1s to hit is the first benefit). So including one combi-plasma sniper is usually a good idea. but you don't have to be a "gunner" to take that - deathwatch gunners only unlock infernus HBs and Frag Cannons.

Infernus Hbs work really solidly on your Heavy specialist, since they get to move and fire heavy weapons, and you definitely want to give your frag cannon the Demolitions specialty.

I've played a bunch of deathwatch in KT so far and the frag cannon is a really good weapon, but it just tends to be such massive overkill once your opponents figure out how to not clump at close range. The shell mode of fire is a great alternative for capping single models, but really only because it has that 2 damage, coupled with the reliability of 2 shots, and no overheating. Infernus bolter actually works better as an anti-horde weapon unless your opponent is a moron who clumps 7 cultists together and lets you deathfart them with the frag cannon - its got a short range of 18", 3 good quality shots making it great for picking on pairs of enemy models a little farther down the field.

So far, I've felt good about preeeetty much everything the deathwatch can bring to the table, with the exceptions of the xenophase blade (just not enough invuln saves running around), the Stalker Boltgun (just not that great in Kill Team and you NEEEEEED your sniper specialist for that plasma gun) and the multi-melta (almost always like having either a frag cannon or a combi-plasma more).

I'd definitely advise a storm shield build for your leader and either a powersword/storm shield or double power sword for your Blackshield if you choose to bring one. Two power swords enable you to divide your attacks between them (say you have a zealot blackshield with 4 attacks on the charge, he can use 2 attacks with one 2 attacks with the other) and then you have the potential of dishing out 2 injury rolls on the same target. So I always use the double sword model because it's super fricking badass and it actually has a purpose in Kill Team.

How about both?
Stick them near each other in cover and that's a big load of nope to anyone wanting to charge them as well as being a fairly solid shooting base that you can park on an objective.
Probably the only downside to that is that's typically almost half your squad camping one objective do you'd need the other 2-3 models doing the rest of the work.

That being said, against non horde armies, I feel like the infernus is better value (because as argued above, the frag round is massive overkill against a single model), BUT if you start taking any extra weapons on anyone, I've really struggled to get anymore than 5 dudes in the squad, meaning I have points left over for the frag anyway.

the frag cannon has more firing modes than just the one.
