Howdy folks,

Thread title I think mostly covers my query, but here's the long version:

If a Craftworld infantry unit with an AML is tagged to fire with the Forwarned Strategem, could that unit use the Starhawk Missile Strategem (assuming the target has the Fly keyword of course)?

Similarly, if a unit with an AML is being charged by a Fly keyworded unit, can it use the Starhawk Missile during Overwatch?

Yes. Starhawk Missile Stratagem doesn't have any restriction on the phase it is used, it can be used any time the unit attacks with a AML. If it had said "Use this stratagem in the Shooting Phase", you could not use it with Forewarned or Overwatch, but it doesn't, so you can.

Also remember the adding 1 to hit doesn't work in Overwatch.

Brilliant, thank you.

One follow up question on the overwatch usage: would it be declared when the unit fires overwatch and just roll normally, or would the missile toter need to make their overwatch roll, then declare it, then make the Starhawk roll?

It's a little unclear to me whether unsuccessful overwatch is treated as a miss (wherein the unit fires) or whether it doesn't even count as a shot going off.

The 'overwatch roll' is a 'roll to hit', just one where you always hit on a 6+, not your BS (thus the modifier is irrelevant).

So, in normal use, can you wait until after you roll to hit to use Starhawk?

A "miss" in overwatch is still a "successful" overwatch - you overwatched, you just missed.

The stratagem says "You can use this Stratagem just before an ASURYANI INFANTRY model from your army attacks a unit that can FLY with an Aeldari missile launcher." You need to declare it before rolling to hit, because that is when the model "attacks".

Nitpick of the deca-millennium: Overwatch does not hit on a 6+, it only hits on a 6. That's why rules like the Mordian Parade Drill stratagem need to state "These modifiers to hit rolls are an exception to the normal rules which do not allow modifiers when making Overwatch shots – in such cases a result of 7 is also a successful hit."
