Hey guys, new to Bolt Action, seems like a cool game, I'm a bit of a WW2 fanatic so I just wanted to get some opinions on an army I was thinking of running. I'm mostly interested in how you think it will do competitively, because the historical theme is pretty good IMO. It's meant to represent Britain's XXX Core in Market Garden, an infantry platoon that's been pinned down and is running out of equipment, supported by "the cavalry" an armored platoon with a couple of Shermans to back them up. The infantry platoon is in such dire straits that they've got an NCO as acting commander, so he's inexperienced. It's 1250 points on the nose
Platoon 1
Inexperienced 2nd Lieutenant
2x 8-man infantry squads
7-man regular infantry squad
Regular light artillery with observer
Plain old Reg. Sherman 1, thin armor, petrol engine and all
Platoon 2
Regular 2nd Lieutenant +1man
5xCommandos with 5 SMGs, in Reg. Bren carrier w/2xLMGs
5x Commandos with 5 SMGs, in Reg. Bren carrier w/2xLMGs
8xRegular infantry in Reg. 30CWT truck w/MMG
Reg. Sherman IIA(76MM gun)
I've read that tanks aren't that great for their value, but with 3 light vehicles I kinda wanna win the armor battle. So that's why I've got the big point-sink of the 76 Sherman. 2nd PLatoon's officer is going in the CWT truck with the big squad of regulars to stiffen them up a bit.
I'm not very clear on how outflank rules work, could someone clarify for me? If the commandos are outflanking in the bren carriers, do they still ignore the -1 for outflanking?
Also, does anyone know of good forums to talk about Bolt Action in? This one seems less than well-populated lol.
EDIT; Just thought of something else, can the Bren carriers fire their second machine gun after the commandos get out? If not that 20 points would be better spent on extra dudes IMO.
