Pure? I would say imperials. They are more full.

As part of soup...Well still Imperial as Imperial soup and Aeldari soup are the top dogs at the moment.

IK have better strategems, warlord traits, and relics. They are a functional army by themselves, or with 3-4 knights plus allies.

Renigades are lacking in all ways except two: they can double up on a shooting weapon, and they have a reroll all hits strat.

This means that a single double Gatling cannon knight can be a pretty effective unit. You'll likely take it alone, although I think there is an argument for taking a couple helverines along as well. I think taking more knights starts to be less and less effective though, and at some point you might as well start using the imperial rules instead.

yes for me best configuration for a renegade super heavy is a double gatling+ironstorm missiles IK and couple of helverins or, depend by list, armigers, we cant have IK's strong like imperial counterpart but 24 str 6 ap -2 d 2 re rolling to hit is effective.

There's actually a really nasty combo for renegade knights. A castellan and something that can cast death hex (eg Magnus) is a very big problem for imperial knights - though realistically a Castellan-off would still probably come down to who had first turn. The house Raven one is far more effective against anything without an invulnerable save.

Imperial are objectively better.
Just with household traits they would be better, but you add in the relics and stratagems and it's no contest really.

Imperial knights are way, way better. It feels like the renegade knights pdf was made in something like 30 minutes.

Atleast in a team tourney they are both viable however a chaos build s limited to one dominous or one double AGC knight

Where as an ik list can function with more.

Prroblem with 1 knight knight offs is they entirely come down to T1

Can anyone inform me as to why everyone gives their Renegade Knight 2x Avenger Cannon rather than Battle Cannons? Is it because you get 24 S6 -2 D2 shot over 4-24 S8 -2 D D3?

I think it is because the battle cannon is WAY overcosted for the stats it has, it also has random shots which is a damn shame, and d3 damage averages out to about 2 anyways. The only thing it really has going for it is the S8 shots. I feel like knowing what you are getting out of the Avenger is way better than using other weapons (an argument can be made for dual thermal cannons though, they hit like TRUCKS).

Avarage numbers for both are
24 S6 -2AP 36 inch range D2 shooting with twin heavy flamers should you get charged

14 S8 -2AP 72 inch range D2 shooting with twin heavy stubbers.

Simply put that extra 10 shots more than makes up for the loss of 2 strength.

I was planning on running Renegade Knights with my Chaos Renegade Marines (Sons of Malice), but I think a cheaper loaded Lord of Skulls is better for Chaos, mainly because it's got more wounds, always an invul save, can shoot two random shot guns AND still chop stuff in combat with the Great Cleaver.....AND also use Daemonforge in shooting and combat, AND be buffed by Dark Hereticus psychic powers.

The Renegade Knights just can't compete with that.

That Lord of Skulls Gatling Cannon needs a price adjustment downward, maybe in the next Chapter Approved?
