Hey everyone. Total newb here! I was looking at getting back in to 40k via kill team. I was thinking of buying a start collecting box to kill two birds with one stone. Start up Kill Team and 40k! What boxes would make a good 100point Kill Team? I’m not sold on any faction over another. With the exception of Nids, my buddy is playing those. Thanks in advance!

I would go with whatever army you like the looks or play style of most. Even with it just being 100 points you're gonna spend some time building/painting the models, and you never want to end up being out $75-$85 from a SC Box that just sits there.

But for right out of the box playing, Deathwatch are a good choice as you can make a decent kill team from one box. Necrons (not the greatest in KT though) are another as the only unit you would be missing out on are Flayed Ones, but you could always convert a Warrior or two if you don't intend on going past the SC Box. Skitarii are similar in that you would only be missing out on a melee threat to complete your team. An all Scion team is possible too and their SC is basically a mandatory purchase to go further with them.

I can't speak on the other Space Marines much, but I wouldn't imagine just a KT of Tactical Marines would be much fun. The other Xenos options are missing too much IMO as you will want some Kabalites for Drukhari and a Stealth Suit/Pathfinders for Tau. Eldar SC gives you nothing. I guess you could run a team of Ork Boyz but I would hold off and see how their codex ends up.

You may even be better off just picking up a troop box though and starting from there to save some money. The nice thing about the SC Boxes is that you can always add one to your army, especially one of the troop heavy boxes.

I went with the Deathwatch KT starter myself for the DW only tactics cards, then bought (a lot more than needed) to get 6 man teams. Warning on the Kill Team Cassius box. The DW vets are noticably smaller than the DW vets that come in the KT starter/ SC boxes. They are close in size to my 3rd ed. marines.

If you prefer regular marines, the Fangs of Ulrich starter has 5 Primaris Reivers, not Tactical marines, so they are beefier (if less flexible) than the original marines. A friend is running some primaris, scout, and tactical marines for a 7 man Imperial Fists KT, so there is flexibility in the build.

It’s not a Killteam SC box, but the MT start Collecting has 10 Scions, which should definitely be enough for a team, a Commissar, which you will be able to use as a Commander, a Taurox, should you need terrain or for 40K games. You don’t get the Killteam stuff, but you can make that and find the rules on the internet.

If the truth can destroy it, then it deserves to be destroyed.

The KT starter teams have 6 exclusive Tactics cards + 1 terrain specific tactics card. So you'll need to decide which path is more beneficial to you: KT specific material but fewer figures, or a 40k SC box with more figures + vehicle + HQ figure.

“Exclusive” in this day and age where we have unboxing videos isn’t much.
