So a few editions ago, 5th I think, Chaos Marines had an option for generic lessor and greater daemon. You could use daemonerttes, bloodletters, Lord of Change, etc. but no matter the model you used, the rule were the same. Player A using Plaguebearers used the same rules as Player B using Pink Horrors.

Plenty of players in my area used various Fantasy models like Chaos Warhounds or Beastmen
Obviously, these units no longer exist and CSM armies wishing to add some Daemons would use the appropriate datasheet for 'Nettes, 'Letters, etc.

But if one were to get a unit of "generic" lesser Daemons now, what units would be good?
Beastmen and Warhounds are still good options, but what about units like Genestealers or some newer kit?
One model could have a magnetic icon to denote what unit they are. Khorne icon for 'Letters for example.

Any thoughts?

This thread makes me cry is my thought. When anyone could summon generic daemons I converted a bunch of fantasy elves into angels for my Inq force and then the ability was nuked. Still salty.

For a generic Chaos Daemon I would think models from the Slaves to Darkness range would work. The regular warrior and the chosen would make good troops and elites. The Chaos Knights would also make good elites. For fast attack Warhounds and Razorgors would be cool also the generic Furies could fit here. For heavy Support Soul Grinders would be here as well the various monsters of Chaos like Chimeras, Jabberslythes, Cockatrice, Cygors, Ghorgons and Giants. Dragon Ogor could also work, the Shaggoth would be an HQ and the regular could work as elites or heavy's.

Another thing is skaven. They got a lot of weird things like no less then five Verminlords.

One of my favorite choices right now are Beastmen Gors, but none of the LGS in my area ever seem to just have a box on the shelf (as this would really just be an impulse buy for me, I'm not planning to order it).
Between looking like the metal sculpt of 'Letters just prior to the plastic update and Tzaangors being a thing, I think they would fit in perfectly as whatever lesser daemon you could want.

An added bonus is that they could be used to supplement Cultists as Abhumans. I've got several CSM bolt pistol and chainsword arms that would look good on them too.

My main purpose for this idea is to have a set of Chaos troops that can be used as whatever non-Marine troop I'd want to play in a small game.
I've got 5 Cultists, so 4 Beastmen would have a bolt pistol arm and 1 would be the unit champion to mix and make a full unit of Cultist.
Or as I mentioned, I can magnetize a banner-bearer to have a specific Icon and use one of these as a unit champion:
Spoiler:

Any suggestions on paint scheme, aside from the generic browns (which could work).
