Last year I started an Ork army, I got some Ork Boyz I built them, prepped them and then made the error in painting the base coat white! My question is could I just re-spray them with a brown base coat instead or would I need to do some prep work first to ensure there wasn't too much layering on the models? Or would it be best to just start fresh, get some new models and start over!

Strip them down, and then restart if you're that worried about it.

Orks come in varied colors of green, so I say go for it with the white base coat. Or use a brown wash and then go from there.

Personally, I always start in white. Lot easier to darken a light base than to lighten a dark base. Worst case scenario:
You paint over the white, hate it and strip them. Only one hing lost is some time but you gained knowledge and practice.

Get rid of your white spray and get some grey. It's the best colour for undercoat. You can pre shade and highlight it and it's not too stark like white. If your initial spray isn't too heavy you could always just respray, but if you think it will obscure details, you can just restrip with dettol or something.

White Grey or Black all depends on how much work you are willing to do as well how fast you wana get an army done.

nothing beats colored primer for knocking out a quick army and if brown is the primary color of this ork army then brown would be best. (Assuming he wants it to be good enough with minimum or low effort depending on how much time he has too)

otherwise yeah if its not over primed then you can potentially hit it again with a primer. otherwise if it was like GW primer you could use various stripping fluids to retry.

It wasn't that I was worried, I was just wondering if that was an option at this point.

Maybe I will just leave them as is, for now, see how they turn out with the white base coat as you say the worse case, I could just strip them and start over at a later date.

I wouldn't worry too much about using white for undercoat. I choose the undercoat colour based on the model, and how bright I want it to be. Orkz can definitely be done with white.

I started to paint (last time was many year ago) my new Blood Bowl Orks..
As always I undercoated those with black paint..

Doh.. I should have been used grey or white.
Using always black undercounting Orcs is not so 21st century Thing..

Going to go with the white base, been looking into some washes today and other techniques which seem to give a really nice finish.

I haven't painted in over 10 years (miniatures) so we will have to see how these come out, I only got as far as base coating my orks before life events took over.

Next thing. Figure out which colours I need, I have some but they have been open for a while, not sure how "good" they will be now.

I have some Tamiya paints from 80's still going well.
Not all, some "flats" have been taken damage.

And old Citadel paints from 90's are too well.
But sadly some new Citadel paints (not the latest) that has been never opened are crap now.
