hi all,
at my local hobby store they're a selling a 200 ml (6.8 oz) bottle of 'Vallejo Premium White Primer'. Has anybody heard of this product line? it appears to be polyurethane based and to be meant for painting RC cars...I was wondering if it could be used as a brush-on primer for minis as well (it comes pretty cheap, roughly 12 US$)

thank you

Pretty much any airbrush paint can be used as a brush-on paint as well. I've never even heard of this product, but I use Vallejo primers and Badger airbrush primers all the time with no issues, both through an airbrush and with a hair brush.

thank you. being polyurethane based I think it's similar to Vallejo's Surface line, I was just wondering whether primers used for RC cars can be used for minis as well (also, the capacity of the bottle is rather unusual, I think)

Vallejo just announced a primer/base colour line called Hobby Paint - but that size doesn't match. dunno.

Phenomenal product; price point compared to aerosol cans is infinitely better (plus you save the environment!), and it allows me to prime and hobby year 'round without suffering the whims of this garbo Canadian winter.

I do recommend applying with an airbrush rather than by hand though.

no, this line has been around for at least a few years

"Acrylic colors specially formulated for airbrushing, with an optimal adhesion on surfaces such as fiberglass, polyethylene, polycarbonate, metal and Lexan. Premium is especially suitable for painting helmets, motorcycle tanks, surfboards and other surfaces exposed to large wear"

Looks like it's suitable for broad surfaces, don't know if that would make a difference if applied to minis. I'm not a pro-painter so I'm not looking for top notch stuff but I'd also rather not buy a 7oz bottle of product which turns out to be useless :/

is it just because it's quicker or are there other technical reasons? and, could you please confirm that you're talking about Vallejo's Premium Primer? (sorry if I'm asking but there are several lines and I just want to make sure we're talking about the same thing lol) thank you

I think DV8 is talking about the regular Vallejo Primer, which indeed should be applied with an airbrush for a smooth even coat. Yes, you can brush it on, but even though you will be using more material, you will have a worse quality result and a thicker layer of primer on the mini.

The Premium Line is really made for RC car bodies and simliar. So it has to deal with flexing surfaces, heat and exhaust fumes. That is a completely different application than our models. Every product is a compromise, having so much of the compromise be dictaced by features you don't need doesn't bode well for the features you do value, such as a self-leveling primer coat that doesn't go on thick and thereby doesn't fill up details.

I use the premium RC satin varnish, that stuff is great.

thank you for your clarification...my only alternative (if we're talking about physical stores) is Army Painter's matt white, which is not a primer...I'm at a bit of a dead end :/

Uhm... even if you don't have a local hobby shop that you can frequent, you could just buy what you need from Amazon's Italian store.
