Apparently there's quotes somewhere from newcron stuff saying that there are as many Necrons as humans in the Imperium. Unlike Humanity, every single one is combat ready, add in the repair abilities and wow, that's actually terrifying.

They were a galaxy spanning empire that was forcibly converted, even with some breaking down due to the passage of time there would certainly be billions, possibly trillions.

Somewhat grimmer isn't the threat of every Necron awakening, but rather if every C'tan shard reformed into their Star God whole!

Before the Newcrons it would've been scary. All waking up at the same time would've been an existential threat. Now not only do they all have to wake but they also fight it out amongst themselves until they unite before they are at such a threat level. They're just another human feudal civilization with typical human politics
