I know with the change they did a while back was to fix some abuse of the shared faction keywords in some armies. Problem is that it has crippled a lot of the more niche factions that desperately need others with the same broad faction keyword. R&H for example were effectively neutered since they can't mix with Daemons or CSM.

Do you think there might be a way to allow more mixed arkies while still putting a stop to some of the more broken armies that might use this to their advantage?

The best thing you can do is make it so no units are considered "autotake", so that you aren't left out in the cold.

One thing you could do is make it so that such units are just available to R&H. You could make it so there's a generic Marine unit in their Elite slot, give them more kinds of Spawn or at minimum the base troops of Daemons.

There's a bit that can actually be done.

Yeah, but then people would start complaining that they should be able to do similar things with their armies. Seems like it's an all-or-none type of deal.

Not a lot of justification can be done for other armies compared to R&H. For Thousand Sons and Death Guard, they get their generic Daemon troops of the same alignment. Some generic Daemon itself that has to choose a Keyword for one of the Chaos Gods could be a good start, kinda in the same vein as Furies.

For having Chaos Marines, it would be mildly harder to incorporate, due to how Legions typically handling things a lot different. For that reason, I'd maybe avoid adding Marines into the army itself.
