Went to a local 2000 point, 3 game tournament (Just got back) My list- Master (Terminator armor, SB/ PW, Tank Hunters) 4 Terminators (2 Assault Cannons) Epistolary Librarian (Terminator armor, SB/ FW, Fear/Fury, Furious Charge) 4 Terminators (2 Assault Cannons) 6 man Tac Squad (Lascannon/plasma gun) in Razorback ( HB) 6 Man Tac Squad (Lascannon/plasma gun) in Razorback ( LC) 10 Man Tac Squad (Lascannon/plasma gun) 6 man Tac Squad (Plasma Cannon) 5 man Assault Squad (Vet w/Power fist, 1 normal guy with plasma pistol) Squadron of 2 Land Speeder Tornadoes Predator Destructor ( AC/ HB) 8 Man Devestator Squad (4 Missile Launchers) 1999 points. All the games are running together, so it'll just be summaries. 1st game was Battle in the Eye of Terror. Straight Victory points, with the ability for each turn, you could take one of your units off the board and immediately deepstrike it. Opponent had marines with the Purity Above All (Apothocaries) and the one for tank hunters in the tactical squads. His list-(Or approximation) Command squad w/master (Power fist, bolt pistol, 4+ invulnerable save), Vet with power fist, company champion, apothacary, and several bp/ ccw marines in a drop pod Dreadnaught ( AC/ SB) in drop pod Techmarine 6 man Terminator squad (2 AC's) 5 10 man tac squads (2 HB, 2 ML, 1 Lascannon, 3 had apothocaires. Plasma guns in the squads. Tank hunters (In the lascannon one at least)) Landspeeder ( HB) Vindicator (Power of the Machine Spirit, rough terrain modification) Highlights- He got first turn. Promptly immboilized his vindicator (Rolled 2 1's in a row). I destroyed it in my shooting phase. Over a couple turns of shooting, I destroyed one of his tactical squads. Drop pods came down close to one another. One in a forest, the dread outside the forest. One of my Tornados was shot down. Had my Tornado, the 6 man plasma cannon squad that deepstruck near the enemy command squad, my assault squad, and my LC Razorback combined fire on the command squad, dropping half it. My master failed the target priority check and promptly destroyed the drop pod the command squad had come from. Assault squad chargedhis command squad and did some casaulties, but was wiped out at the end of his assault phase. Destroyed unit with shooting then. While this was going on, his dread charged my 6 man plasma cannon squad and killed one. They deepstruck out of combat, but landed within 1" of the enemy command squad and were destroyed Dread was destroyed, along with his drop pod. Shot up his Terminator squad, with the Pred getting the final kill. Lost a razorback to shooting. I won by about 300 victory points there. <!-- / message --><!-- edit note -->

Game 2-Snowblind vs Tau (Every unit scatters after placement. If scatter off the board, they go into reserves. Night fight rules in effect, but 2d6x4" for visibility. VP to win. Bonus for table quarters.) Quarter Deployment.
Terrain was a jungle, with some large forests diagonally across the middle, blocking line of sight. In retrospect, this was a bad move on my part, as it piecemealed my force going in.
His list- (Everything that could have it had dark sun filters) Lower commander (Plasma rifle/Cyclonic blaster/Stim injector)
Lower commander (Markerlight, missile pod, shield generator)
3 Suits (plasma/fusion) 2 shield drones
3 Suits (Plasma/missile pods) 2 shield drones
3 suits (Twin linked missle pods. One had a fletchette discharger)
3 12 man firewarrior squads (markerlight, 2 gun drones)
2 10 man firewarrior squads (markerlight, 1 gun drone)
2 Broadsides (ASB, 2 shield drones)
Sniper drone team
Railhead w/missles and 1 seeker.
Highlights-
I had my speeders and my HB razorback scatter off the board. I kept my Librarian in reserves.
He had a suit team, a firewarrior team, and his hammer head scatter off.
He got first turn, and went into the forest and shot up one of my 6 man las/plas squads (It ended up being destroyed).
My las/plas squads trickled into the forest and all got shot up (Though one didn't go under half, and the 10 man was reduced to just a lascannon at the end).
Assault squad and plasma cannon squad went to the left to meet up with a firewarrior squad that was running down that side. They destroyed it in hth, with the tac squad claiming the table quarter, and the assault squad running up to engage a crisis suit, killing one, but not destroying the unit.
Librarian deepstruck on one flank of the clustered up Tau force and scattered closer to the main body of it. Perfect position for a boo. Several units went scampering off the board. (Crisis suit, drone team, 2 firewarrior squads)
Entire tau force shot at Librarian, but after all was said and done, Librarian remained, though wounded, and one assault cannon terminator. Moved closer, and declared I was shooting at the broadsides as I did a boo. More stuff ran, including the broadsides. I should have not declared a target, as I could have easily assaulted his commander had I not shot at the broadsides.
Hammer head came on (On turn 4) and librarian was removed from board.
Hammer head/broadsides wounded Pred (Destroyed Turret/immobilized it).
Last turn, Hammer Head went down to almost my entire army's shooting. I claimed 2 table quarters, plus was ahead on points to begin with. I won by about 1600 points.
Game 3-Seize that objective (Winner is one who has the closest scoring unit to the objective) vs marines (Cleanse and purify)
His list- Chappy with jump pack
Librarian (2 wound, terminator armor, Fear) 4 Termies (Assault cannon, heavy flamer)
2x10 man tac squad (melta/flamer, vet sgt w/bolter) in Rhino (xarmor, smoke)
5 man scout squad (shotgun, 4 bp/ccw)
10 man scout squad (HB, 6 snipers, 3 bolters)
10 man assault squad (2 plasma pistols, vet w/pf)
10 man assault squad (Flamer, vet w/pf)
Pred Anhilator (Tri-Lascannon, x-armor)
8 man Dev Squad (4 missile launchers, vet w/botler).
He deployed his assault squads behind the rhinos.
He got first turn. Ran the rhinos up, blew smoke, and unloaded the troops in front. Assault squads followed behind. Firing dropped the Sergeant from both my terminator squads, along with putting a wound on the librarian/master.
Shot up both squads, and both my termies had to assualt the same squad as the master failed a priority test again. Still, did a dual assault and both squads were wiped out. Killed about half the assault squad with the chaplain in shooting also.
Predictably, both his assault squads went after both my termie squads. Killed both assault squads (My assault squad helped with his chaplain squad.) after a couple turns. Master's squad was reduced to one assault cannon marine (Master was killed). Librarian was reduced to him and 2 termies.
Librarian killed by shooting. My assault squad ran up the board, and engaged and (After a couple turns) killing his dev squad for the loss of two marines.
One of my speeders had the assault cannon blown off by a krak missile.
His terminators came down and shot up one of my squads (The lone guy with a lascannon survived the rest of the game). Return fire killed one terminator (Plasma cannon missed, and he was rolling invulnerable after invulnerable. Lucky guy).
His fear was hooded once, and then my librarian was dead, so it went off, scaring my big unit of marines. He assaulted them. They held up for a couple turns, and the other las/plas squad charged in (But was beaten off). However, I did manage to win a combat on turn 6 and send the librarian running (counting him as destroyed). Both of my squads ended up at half strength.
My Pred was destroyed by his Dev Squad. Last turn, my speeders ran up to the objective, and in the process, immobilized his Pred (Which was unable to shoot half the game due to being shaken by my dev squad).
End of the game, he had his large scout squad left, an immobilzed Rhino, and an immobilzed Predator. I was ahead by about 600 vicotry points (In addition to winning outright because of claiming the objective).
Final results-Best General (49 Battle points out of a max of 45). Out of the 9-10 Tournaments I've been to, this is my 7th or 8th best general award.
Appearance was 50.5 (Best was 69.5). Comp/Theme, I scored 62 (Best was 65.5). I was tanked on sports (27.5. Best was 48.5) and During the battles, I scored a total of 5048 victory points (Highest there). Taking 5th overall out of 12.

Nice report! A great result, especially considering your list doesn't scream "I am optimized 6 ways from Sunday!" [the comp rules must have had a lot to do with that].
Some really interesting opponents/missions, to boot!
I'm surprised you only got 5th with that kind of performance...

Neat summary. Seems like comp dictated army design as all the armies listed seemed to have maxed out on Troops. Not a bad thing, but something I don't normally see a lot of.
If I got tanked on Sports, I'd be curious as to why; was it a case of sour grapes, or was it something I actually did that upset my opponents.
Good job w/ Best General

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby. |

Well done! I read your army list as posted prior to the tournament, and I see you made some final changes. I would have gone with a larger assault squad, taking men from that 10-man tac squad. I guess it doesn't matter, since you won! I'm interested to know what kind of changes you would make in this army list, now that you've tested it in a tournament.

Well, for where I play in tourneys, none. It's set up to be nasty, able to take on anything, and still be very comp friendly.
If I was going somewhere where comp had less of a bearing, I'd get rid of the razorbacks (Or possibly just the dual lascannon one), make the 10 man squad a 6 man, get a whirlwind, and increase the jump pack size, and possibly add a plasma gun to the plasma cannon squad.
