Hello Dakka,

I was able to get out of the house and meet up with a friend the local shop the other day. We decided to have an 8th ed 2000 point throw down of my Halflings vs his Ogres. As usual my Halflings will be played as Night Goblins. My friend is proxying some Stormcast Eternals as Ogres. We are both a bit rusty, so it will just be a simple battle line scenario today. So on with the lists.

Halflings (Night Goblins)

My BSB with Talisman of Ednurance and Sword of Might, Big Boss with Axe of Stuntie Smashin, a Level 4 Night Goblin Shaman with Talisman of Preservation, and my proxy Skarshink and Gobbla.

43 Night Goblins with hand weapon & Shield, Nets, and 3 Fanatics.

30 Night Goblins with hand weapon & Shield, Nets, and 3 Fanatics.

24 Night Goblins with hand weapon & Shield, Nets, and 3 Fanatics.

5 Shamefully unpainted Wolf Riders

2 Bolt Throwers and a Wolf Chariot

2 Doom Diver Catapults

Big Bob the Giant

For Spells I have, Sneaky Stabbin, Vindictive Glare, Gift of the Spider God, and Gork’ll Fix It.

Stormcast Orgres

Guy with the Blue hair is his Tyrant, Big Banner in the back is a Bruiser BSB, and guy to the right is a Butcher.

6 Iron Guts

Two units of 6 Ogres Bulls in the back, 3 Sabretusks, the purple dude is a Firebelly and the blue guy is a Gorger.

In the back the crossbow guys are Leadbelchers, and the mounted models are Mournfangs.

For spells, the Firebelly has Fireball, and the Butcher has Tooth Cracker and Bull Gorger.

Set Up
Skarshink and the BSB are in the center horde unit. The Big Boss is in the 30 man block and the Shaman is just in front of the tower, where his miscasts cannot hurt anyone. The Tyrant is with the Ironguts, the BSB joins the Leadbelchers, the Butcher is just behind the Ironguts, and the Firebelly is behind the red rock.

Ogre Turn 1
Skarshink pulled his Tricksy Traps on the Iron Guts and the Sabretusks, so they had to move on from the board edge. Otherwise the Ogres move up. The Butcher casts Tooth Cracker on the Bulls in the forest who take a wound from difficult terrain. The Firebelly hits the Wolf Riders with a fireball and sends them running. You can see them fleeing just to the right of the tower in my deployment zone.

Halfling Turn 1
The Wolf Riders rally just before the table edge. The Giant moves up to threaten the Firebelly. The Chariot tries to redirect the Mournfangs on the far left. The Shaman casts Gork’ll Fix it on the Bulls in the Woods, he also beefs up Skarshink’s horde with Sneaky Stabbinand Gift of the Spider God. A Doom Diver causes 1 wound on the Bulls in the forest.

Ogre Turn 2
The Bulls and Sabretusks charge the Giant. It didn’t make it into the shot, but the Mournfangs charge the chariot on the left flank.

The Firebelly roasts some guys with a fireball, but not enough for a panic.

The Leadbelchers take out some Chefts but not enough for a panic.

Both the Bulls and the Sabretusks fail their Fear test on the giant. The Sabretusks whiff, and thanks to Gork’ll Fix It the Bull have to reroll all those 6’s. The Giant causes one wound on the Sabretusks but loses combat due to the flank and banner. His Stubbornness keeps him around. The Mournfangs obliterate the chariot and reform to face the artillery on the hill.

End of Ogre Turn 2

Halfing Turn 2

Skarshnik’s unit unleashes their Fanatics on the Bulls just outside the forest. Between the Fanatics and Skarshnik’s Prodder the unit is cut in half. Magic and Shooting are pretty uneventful this turn.

The Giant jumps up and down on the Sabretusks, whipping out the unit. The Bulls whiff and run with the Giant only an inch behind. The Bulls lose a model to dangerous terrain.

Ogres Turn 3
At first this looks bad. Mournfangs declar a charge on the Bolt Thrower, Gorger on the horde, and Firebelly on the Wolf Riders.

Surprisingly only the Gorger makes his charge, the other fail. The Bulls in the forest rally and face the Giant. The Irongus get bottled up by the Fanatics.
In combat Skarshnik, Gobbla, and the BSB whiff against the Gorger. One regular guy puts a wound on the Gorger, who causes one wound in return.

Halfling Turn 3
The Giant Charges the Bulls.

The Chefs release their Fanatics to keep the Leadbelchers back.

In an amazing feat of marksmanship the Doom Diver gets a direct his on the Bulls in the center, killing one and panicing the unit, who flee through the Ironguts. Even with the Tyrant the Ironguts panic and my opponent’s rage at the dice match his shirt.

The Shaman hits the Bulls in the Forrest again with Gork’ll Fix It. Skarshink and friends finish off the Gorger. The Giant fails to Headbutt a Bull, but Gork keeps him safe.

Ogres Turn 4

The Tyrant w/Ironguts & Bulls all fail their rally test and are nearly at the board edge.

The Leadbelchers take out a few more Chefs but they pass their panic test.

The Giant thumps the Bull champion with a club and wins combat.

The Mournfangs charges a Bolt Thrower killing the crew and overrun into the next one. The Gian chases down the Bulls and sets his sights on the Leadbelchers flank.

Halfling Turn 4
The Giant fails his charge against the Leadbelchers. Magic is a bust and the artillery is slowly being eaten. The Doom Diver on the right misfires and destroys itself. The Mournfangs take out the last Bolt Thrower and overrun into the last Doom Diver.

Ogres Turn 5

The Tyrant w/Ironguts and Bulls finally rally giving the Ogres new life. The Firebelly blasts the Big Boss’s unit again, but they pass their Panic check. The Leadbelchers take a three wounds off the Giant. As expected the Mourfangs eat the Doom Diver crew and overrun into the Chefs.

Halfling Turn 5

The Giant charges the Leadbelchers, and the Big Boss has his unit charge the Butcher who has been hiding in the woods.

The Leadbelchers take another wound off the Giant from Stand and Shoot. The Bruiser finished him off. However the Giant falls over killing 2 Leadbelchers and giving another two wounds.

The Shaman does his best to help the Chefs, but it’s not enough to stop the Mournfangs. They break and are run down. The Mournfangs overrun into Skarshink and his horde. The Big Boss and his unit take out the Butcher and they reform to face the Firebelly.

Ogres Turn 6

The Firebelly thinks he can do better than the Butcher, so he charges the Big Boss’s unit.

For once Skarsnik and Bobbla were on fire, killing 1 Mournfang and putting a wound on another. Even with Gork’s help the Mournfangs kill 7 (mostly impact hits) with the charge their score is 8 to the Goblins 9. They lose by 1 and break. The Mournfangs get away from Skarshink but stop right in front of a Fanatic.

The Firebelly whiffs and takes a few wounds for his trouble. He breaks but the short halfling legs cannot catch him.

End of Ogre turn

Halfling Turn 6

Skarshink’s hord charges the Mournfangs, which they get away from Skarshink but hit two more Fanatics which finishes them off. The unit with the Big Boss charge and catches the Firebelly. The Shaman spreads his usual love and kills one Leadbelcher with a Vindictive Glare.

That’s the official end.

We played it out for a few more turns and it only got worse for the ogres.

This was the end at last. The Tyrant and his unit couldn’t break the horde and Skarshink and Bobbla slowly chew threw them, with the Big Boss closing in.

So, in the end both me and my friend have a new appreciation for Gork’ll Fix It. That Spell really hampered him and Nets. The nets were fantactic. Ogres being taken down in Strength was hilarious.
I hope you all enjoy
