Do multiple hits from a Solar Staff stack. Ie, I get 5 hits, roll 4+ three times, is the target unit -3 to hit or -1 to hit?

Text from the artefact :

"Each time an enemy Infantry unit is hit by this weapon in the shooting phase, roll a D6; on a 4+ the enemy unit is blinded until the end of the turn - it cannot fire Overwatch and your opponent must subtract 1 from any hit rolls made for the unit."

Argument for : It says "each time", it does not say "if any rolls are 4+ then"
Example : Voltaic Staff "Each time you make a wound roll of 6+ for this weapon in the shooting phase, the target suffers a mortal wound in addition to any other damage" . Otherwise, Voltaic staff would only do a single mortal wound ever.

Argument against : each one gives you a chance at having the effect, but the effect is the same for any number of successes.
Example : Gauntlets of Conflagrator "... - that unit suffers a mortal wound for each roll of 6." It would have called it out for each roll of 4+ if it were intended to stack.

Badly written rule, I don't think there is a good answer, but let's see what peoples thoughts are about it.

You get multiple instances of "your opponent must subtract 1 from any hit rolls", and by subtracting 1 you satisfy every instance of the rule.

Alternatively, via the Designers commentary "Q: Are modifiers to dice rolls cumulative in the same way that modifiers to characteristics are? A: Yes." So both answers are true for a specific value of true.

If only there were some sort of document that could answer frequently asked questions. Alas, such a thing is but a fairy tale fantasy!

I think the wording is clear actually, each time you hit, you get a chance to roll a 4+ to blind him. This had the consequence that he cannot etc..

Agreed. Once the unit is blinded, he has that condition and isn't going to count as being blinded twice the same turn. The rule didn't make any provisions for multiple blindings the same turn to stack.

The rule allows multiple D6 rolls, with any successes triggering the blinded state. Simples. Citation: English grammar.

For me, the joy is in putting some good-looking models on the board and playing out a fantasy battle - not arguing over the poorly-made rules of some 3rd party who neither has any power over my play nor will be visiting me (and my opponent) to ensure we are "playing by the rules"
