I recently had an interaction with GW's Customer Support which, due to it's nature, the mods throw screaming fits about if I try to discuss. It was relevant to the discussion at hand. It was on subject. It was, frankly, rather mind blowing that this actually came from GW.

I have to ponder, how far must we take censorship here on certain subjects? At what point is it actually DETRIMENTAL to both the hobby and this site? Given responses, I can only imagine the Frothing Conniptions that the mods would have if, as an example, GW cast a new Female Space Marine, and spammed images of it everywhere as they do for other releases.

There are times when the mods need to learn to use some sense rather than reflexively spamming the 'Delete Post' button every time a given word appears like a bunch of automated bots.

Your particular concern regarding SM has a history of causing riots around here.

Think of it this way. If every time someone said “House Party” your house inevitably got trashed, you’d want people to stop saying “house party” right?

The word censorship gets thrown around pretty casually here. Have you ever had to clean up after a party you weren’t invited to, and didn’t want? That’s what mods often have to do. Try to see it from the other side.

I don't have to imagine it, I've been a mod on 40k boards before. I've even owned a 40k board before. But I find the degree to which the mods here take things to be absurd.

to use your example, the logical response to said house party would be to call the police, not level the block with artillery.

The mods are not prone to 'screaming fits'. If you have a point to make, explaining it without the ridiculous hyperbole is probably going to get better results.

What is the actual issue here?

Sometimes its not the barebones content of what you say its how and where you choose to say it which can be the contentious issue. Especially if you repeat that style of behaviour even when warned not to.

Now it might be that you can't see the issue but that mods can or that you've repeated behaviour several times which results in site disruption and thus the mods ban the topic in general to avoid continued site disruption even if no single person in the thread did anything outright "wrong"

That said without any context of what you said to whom or to where its near impossible for anyone but yourself or the mods (or those who saw what was posted before, I assume, it was removed?) to relaly weight in on this.

Baron, if you’ve modded before, and owned a site before, what happened to those sites?

Maybe the grass is greener on the other side of the fence because you aren’t there, fething things up?

Please take that in jest, but the point remains that Dakka is a successful site. Presumably they’re getting things right.

The issue here was in the Forgeworld thread RiTides left a warning to not discuss recasting on dakka and several posters chose to do so right after the in thread warning. Dakka wants to maintain a friendly atmosphere for all, including manufacturers who would take a very dim very of the site advocating piracy of their or other companies IP.

It is quite clear that dakka policy is not to discuss recasters nor where to purchase their wares, it is also quite clear that posters are expected to follow moderator instructions.

Just unlocking this to add – as ingtaer said, this seems to be a reaction to not being able to discuss recasting in the Forgeworld News & Rumors thread.

I can only say, as I did in the thread, that we’ve for as long as I’ve been on Dakka had a really clear policy on recasting – posts encouraging it simply aren’t allowed on Dakka. We want manufacturers to participate here, and particularly in a manufacturer’s news thread, it simply is not appropriate to advocate for recasting their models!

Also, while each individual moderator’s views on this personally and “where to draw the line” are probably slightly different, the site owners/admins are really clear on this. It simply is not allowed on Dakka.

I’d be happy to discuss this further via PM, as I noted in both in-thread messages, too…
