Hello everyone
I started playing Games workshop games back in the early 90s. So 40k 2nd edition(even played a few games of RT with some friends) and Warhammer 3rd I think box set had goblins and High Elfs. Over the years I played just about all the games GW had. Really liked Necromunda and Mordheim. When my boys where little I sold off most of my stuff and did the family stuff that was around 40k 5th. Now my youngest (14yr) has shown a interest in playing 40k so started digging out some old boxes of minis. One good thing about having played for years I have boxes of old minis and bits that I never tossed. This is what I have dug out so far
Ork war boss, smaller bosses and 10-12 boys
10 marine terminators
10 space marines
20 assault marines
5 blood angle honor guard
1 dreadnought
2 tanks rhino and vindicator
All the above is 5th edition stuff
Plus I have 6 or 7 marine heroes old school 3rd or 4th editions metals from space wolf's, blood angels and dark angels.
Enough bits to build 30-40 space marines mostly 3rd or 4th edition stuff)
Lots of Imperial Guard metals and plastics troops
Lots of D&D minis and minis from other wargames.
So a good start for a blood angle force but I don't really like blood angels not sure where I got these guys.
But anyway I found the 40k 7th edition box set of rules for $25 at the local game store so bought it knowing it was the old edition but the fluff was still good. Did think about playing 7th just so my boys could see how it worked and let them get their feet wet before spending a lot of money but also ordered Kill Team so I think we are going to start there.
My goal is to start building a Kill team table this weekend and make some buildings. My youngest is wanting to help build terrain so that will be a good time. Once we have a table to use we will start building teams I think we have enough minis to build a few different teams to get us started. But I'm sure we will be expanding on oldest has shown interest in Necrons so that will be fun don't have any of those.
Ok I think that is all just checking in and getting my first post out of the way.

I started with 2nd Edition too - those were the days!
Anyway, welcome back to the hobby, and welcome to Dakka Dakka!

Plenty of old school players and collectors around here will share your enthusiasm. If you have the time and inclination you should blog your progress, the resurrection of your old minis, your boy's scenery builds and your kill teams, maybe even give us some battle reports of your games. There's plenty of scope for throwing it all out on dakka for us to squee over.
Welcome to dakka.

Thanks everyone
Thecrowe@ funny that you bring up recording the terrain build and team builds we have been talking about recording all that stuff as we will be building everything. The boards, buildings, hills, trees and anything else we need. I sold all my terrain years ago so other than some 3rd edition tropical trees we have nothing.
I see this as a chance to build boards like I always wanted but never did. Going to make modular 12"x12" city boards with roads then make buildings both ruins and intact. Started drawing some designs on paper this week. Once we get enough terrain for a good kill team hoping to expand it out to a 40k size table. Might change the 12"x12" to larger but not sure yet.
Also digging tonight found 12 old school chaos terminators the ones with spikey strips on the shoulder pads. Need to make some bases for them because these came with the small ones. These guys are screaming for some customization for sure.
