Not sure how to best weather these or if I should add some more bling. Might put black on the heat sinks on the end of the barrels. Also, how would you do this same color scheme on your custodian guard and keep the colors at the same ratio?

The gold and silver on your model is too clean and uniform. That's obviously a good thing as far as colour application goes, but not good for the final look.
That's because it's associated with toys made from coloured plastic and because it lacks contrast.
The model would benefit from some shadows or less bright shades of the metal in recesses and anywhere not hit by light above the model.

How much should I thin my paints to turn them into a proper wash?

If you are making a custom wash, I don't recommend using just water. You need to get some Lahmean Medium. It helps the paint actually act like a wash so that the pigment actually collects in the recessed areas.
If you just mix in water, the color will stay on the flat areas more and the model will just look dirty.

I'd say for these models, I go with about 30% color, 40% Lahmean Medium, 30% water to thin.
Definitely test out your mix and adjust as needed
