So last time I played the game was way back in 6th Edition. I am returning now and have some questions and could use some help building up a 2K army for casual games with the standard 2000 points rule. I am sorry if my questions have been asked many times before but this is all new to me.

I see there are Battle Forged Armies and Command points.

1) Can I combine Blood Angels with Imperial Guard and still get command points and Battle Forged?

2) Am I losing anything by combining these armys?

3) For getting detachments, Let's say I have 2 brigades, a spearhead, and a vanguard. Is that the same CP as having a Battalion?

4) I have an Imperial Knight new in box I haven't even opened. I am going to eventually paint it but should I field it?

Extra Credit) If anyone would like to take some time and help me make an army out of what I own that would be great. If so I will post a list of all the miniatures I have.

Thanks for browsing my Thread. Have a great day!

1. yes
2. no, but you gain a lot
3. from which army, because a battalion of IG is not the same as a battalion of BAs in points
4. the crusaders are good knights. castellans are better, but crusaders are more then solid option

If you have to kill, then kill in the best manner. If you slaughter, then slaughter in the best manner. Let one of you sharpen his knife so his animal feels no pain.

For Matched Play at 2000 points, you might be limited to 3 detachments. It depends on what your gaming group uses for Matched Play. Some follow the guidelines for Matched Play in Organised Events (see the table on page 214 of the English language rulebook).

A brigade provides a lot more CP than a battalion. The chapter of the rule book on Battle Forged armies has charts that show you the details of each detachment, including the CPs gained for each one. You should also look at Big FAQ 1 because GW increased the CPs for battalion and brigades.

I like to use an IG brigade with an IG battalion and a inquisitorial vanguard detachment in a 2000 point Matched Play list. This combination gives me 21 CPs.

The secret to painting a really big army is to keep at it. You can't reach your destination if you never take any steps.

My god man that is so many units LUL. Thanks for the info.

Noticed you were from the same area. I am trying to find a good place to play 40k. I checked out the one huge game store and the smaller place that is also a computer store. Went to the big on on a weekend and it was packed and enormous asked the staff there when people play they said only a few people play 40k most play AoS. Only browsed the smaller store since they were getting ready to close. I didn't check the GW store and there is another place in West Columbia I haven't gotten around to checking yet. Any suggestions on where to buy / play / paint?

All of those places can be good places to play. There are a lot of 40K and AoS players in Columbia SC. My personal favorite is the computer store place on Harbison because the players are more laid back and interested in fun rather than crushing their opponents. Try joining Gamers Council on Facebook and you can schedule games and see upcoming events for all four stores.

For some initial advice, Battalions are a good place to start, especially for Guard. With a base of 3 troops and 2 HQ. Very few points to get a lot of CP with very good units.

All other formations require “3-of” FA or EL or HS or... 3-of each of the above. And more troops.

So a basis of 6 Infantry Squads and 4 to 6 HQ choices (Leman Russ can be taken as HQ choices now and get BS 3+ to hit and orders...)

Transports, Chimera and Valkyrie, are not very good right now. I think Vendetta are usable in a casual environment. A unit of Ogryn are usable.

Two Battalions will give you 13 CP to start, which is a great way to super-charge a smash-captain. So I’d consider a couple of those as your opener HQ’s for the Blood Angel part. 3 *cheap* BA troops would put you at 18 CP... that would definitely go a long way. Leftover points I’d probably invest in Death Company and or Sanguinary Guard... I’m not current with what’s the new hotness in BA.

So, you kind of have what people are calling the main build online. You have BA, so if you have a model with a thunder hammer and a jetpack then you have Smashcaptain and if you have thirty guardsmen and two commissars, then you have the loyal 32 (CP battery). Adding in an abusive Knight, and you have the top tourney list. I’m sure lots of people here are willing to share in more detail, but I can tell you that you listed in your opening post the capability to make the most brutal tournament list out there!

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

The Loyal 32 is usually 30 guardsmen and two company commanders. You could replace the commanders with two Lord Commissars to get a bit more fighting capability but it would cost you ten more points.

Me fielding these minis would be like giving a 5th grader a flame thrower.

Don't know much about the knight. I still need to assemble and mag it. He wont be table ready for a while. I do like the sound of nearly fearless guard blobs and assault marines though.

Indeed, this kind of list is absolutely brutal in the hands of the right General.

The 30 guardsmen and 2 Lord Commissars wouldn't make a nearly fearless guard blob. IG squads don't blob in 8th edition and GW nerfed commisars (see IG FAQ) so IG squads don't get much benefit from them. The value of the "Loyal 32" is to provide 5 cheap CP and serve as screens, backfield objective holders, and anything they kill or tie up is a bonus. Your BA and the Knight are the killers in the list.
