So started converting my Void miniatures into Astra Militarum over the weekend. I'm going to share the progress here on this thread of how it goes and updated as I get models done.

I made a video of what everything looks like before I started so you can see the beginning.
https://youtu.be/f5cfvTLpFMs

I'm still working on the army list for the force so I can plan out the units as I go but here are my first thoughts. This should make building squads easier and give me a goal to work toward.

Starting with the Void Junkers as the core of the force here is what I'm thinking

2 Platoon Commander Plasma pistol (45 points each)
2 Command Squad x2 Plasma Gun, Heavy bolter (58 points each)
2 Infantry squads flamer (47 points each)
4 Infantry squads plasma gun (47 points each)
2 Infantry squads melta gun (52 points each)
2 Heavy weapon squads 3 Lascannon (78 points each)
2 Heavy weapon squads 3 heavy bolters (42 points each)

114 models so far. I think I will be a few models short but should be able to mix a few others in the squads to make up the numbers. It would be nice to have two full platoons of these guys but not sure I will need that many.

Here are the first two squads I started with. I'm not really happy with the flamers but they will work for now. The one with a cadian flamer isn't finished I want to put some hose on the flamer to a tank or maybe the backpack. The other flamer I just don't like. Planning on starting to paint them this week, might not get them finished but will get a good start.

Thoughts on the other models in the video.

The other Void models I might use as Vets or Tempestus squads. Will take a little more work but shouldn't be a issue as I have lots of extra models.
Warzone trenchers would be nice to use but after really thinking it over I don't think there are enough of them.
Necromunda gangers might make nice conscripts but looks like days of 50 strong squads are gone so might do something else with them.

As far as background I'm thinking these guys will be from a Hive world with Orks being a ever present danger so they have large bayonets or combat weapons. I know for the rules they can't do combat weapons but they look very cool modeled on the infantry.

If you have thoughts or suggestions please let me know.

Wow, cool project!

You might not need that many infantry models for a 2000 point army. Characters and vehicles usually take up half the points.

The secret to painting a really big army is to keep at it. You can't reach your destination if you never take any steps.

I build IG...lots and lots of IG.

Thanks.

Yes I was a little surprised by the point cost of infantry squads now. I will be adding some tanks and characters for sure, really want to convert some Ogryn up because I like the idea of the unit.

At work yesterday I was 60 miles from home and my car died so last night was spent online car shopping. But hope to get time this week to start painting and convert another unit. Will be posting soon

I was able to make a heavy flamer for my command squad and started making other conversions but ran out of Lasguns so hit a dead end.

Was hoping I could 3d print some lasguns but not really working out like I hoped so might just need to order some. So this project is on hold till I can work out this issue.

Look at swap-shop or E-bay, people might have plenty of these lying around.

Yeah, the swap-shop threads.
Lots of us have boxes of parts taking up shelf space.
Post in there with what you want, and see what we have.

Digging in my boxes found about 20 more lasguns so going to start building a few more squads.

Also thinking might be worth building these as traitor guard or even chaos cultist. My son doing marines if I do one of those it would make sense fluff wise.
