Quick-fingered Warlord Moderatus




Howdy Dakka!

I've been living under a rock lately thanks to work, but I've finally crawled out and am trying to put together my first competitive list in a very long time. My goal is to have this list themed while remaining as competitive as I can within that theme (I know it's not a world beater and that's cool).

I haven't had a chance to pick up Vigilus Ablaze yet, but it sounds like there are some things in there that may help this list. Let me know if that's accurate!

Looking for some specific suggestions (see below after the list)as well as any other advice you can throw my way.

So if I did the math right, that leaves me with enough points to do one of the following:

add a Greater Possesed who could help buff the Demon Engines

Use the left over as reserve points for demon summoning (would be enough for 10 Plague Bearers, Pink Horrors, or Bloodletters - decent for disruption or quick objective grabbing (would be converting these from Tyranid models and adding mechanical bits to keep the theme- as though the Iron Warriors captured and managedto "program" the 'nids)

Add a squad of 5 more basic Marines -because reasons?

Add 5 Warp Talons to help with hitting the enemy backfield (I realize they aren't overly great, but they fit the points and could at least tie something up for a turn)

OR I could drop the Master of Possession and add a second Havoc squad

The plan for this army is to obviously rush the Demon engines forward. I gave the one Lord the Flesh Metal Exoskeleton because it allows him to regen a wound at the start of each turn, so w/his natural regen, he'll be getting 2 wounds back per turn. Would be using the Death Hex Sorcerer to remove invuln saves on when the Demon Engines charge, and the Maulers are equiped w/tendrils so that they can deal w/infantry or big singular targets.

Since Havocs can move and shoot now, was going to use that in combination with the Presience Sorcerer to help them reposition quickly when needed, and the terminators are there to drop in and hopefully melta anything that needs killed or softened up for the engines.They will also hopefully be able to tie up some enemy units. Also, I haven't marked anything because I'm trying to keep it fluffy, but feel free to make suggestions on that. I could be convinced otherwise.

So with all of that being said, what would you recommend I do with the left over points, and what other changes or suggestions might you have?

First I want to say that I do not know anything about the fluff so you have to excuse me for that.

The thing I see first is a part of the Vigilus book which I strongly suggest you get.

Swap all the HQ so lord discordant is with maulerfiends.
Pay 1cp to make the spearhead “soulforged”. All engines and Warpsmiths gain this keyword.
Pay 1cp for “field commander” for a Lord Discordant to get a second WL trait. Then give him the special trait so he gets a 6” aura and gives + 2” move too all engines and Warpsmiths.

You get a stratagem for 1cp so you can advance and charge with an engine. If you want you can make one lord “khorne “ and buy the relic “talisman of burning blood” for advanced and charge and then warptime a third engine to possibly have 3 big stuff in enemy face turn 1.

As you said yourself, drop MoP for more havocs with reaper chaincannon for more shooting at screen so your engines and lords make it to combat with the juicy stuff.

I'd drop the baleflamers on the lord discordants. Waste of 20 points each.

Your spearhead would be a better place for the lord discordants then make it the soul forged detachment.

I'd drop the reaper autocannon for terminators. It's not worth taking.

I'd drop a marine squad for more havoc's cos that single squad will be a main priority for your opponent.

Be tempted to throw in a greater possessed to run up with your daemon engines
