It was brought up off-topic in another post that
SM used to be able to use grenades in melee vs vehicles. That sounds really cool and was my favorite thing to do back in Halo 2 splitscreen. So now I'm wondering how could that best be implemented in 8th if it should be at all.
Keeping current grenade rules of 1 use per unit per phase to avoid glass cannon syndrome.
"When chosen to fight in the fight phase one model in this unit may choose to make one attack with a grenade weapon using its weapon skill when targeting an enemy vehicle within 1". This model may not make any other attacks this phase".
Should it be added to the "grenade" weapon type or for specific units? I'm leaning towards the weapon type. Let me know if any army has ludicrous grenades that would cause trouble or a dire lack of grenades. I feel like anyone should be able to have a heroic moment like this, but also that viable places to stash the 'nade are limited which gives some reason for 1 per unit.
Counterbalance: this will hurt vehicles and buff infantry. It also buffs the fight phase (i'm pretty ok with that). So there may need to be a separate rule that helps vehicles out. I don't want to focus too much on the er muh gerd chain effect of dooooom arguments that often come up and bog down the topic. But, maybe some tank shock?
IDK it might be a bit bloated.
"When falling back from close combat a VEHICLE may move through INFANTRY, SWARM, AND DRONE units so long as it ends the movement outside of 1" from any enemy models. For each unit that was moved through roll a dice, on a 5+ that unit takes a mortal wound. Add 1 to the result if the unit contains 5 or more models, subtract one from the result if the unit contains only 1 model."
The keywords could be tweaked to be any excluding vehicle and monster if that's any better.
