Hey guys,

So I decided to start building an Ork army. However, I noticed I made the same mistake I made when I started playing Dark Angels and Drukhari: I just start buying units I like without thinking about what I want to do with that army. So far I've collected the following units:

1 Kustom Boosta-Blasta
1 Shokkjump Dragsta
6 Warbikers
3 Killa Kans
5 Loota/Burna Boyz
5 Nobz
20 Gretchins
10 Boyz
1 Deff Dread
1 Painboy

The idea was to make a 2000 pts army consisting of Evil Sunz (for fast hard-hitting units) and Goffs (for the green tide). I'd love to get some recommendations for units or some tips on how to expand this army.

Tnx!

Well the speed freak box contents are bit of a meh and killa kans plain suck. Rest can work.

What you need for now is: more boyz. 10 is junk. 30 is pretty much minimum you need for 1 unit so question is how many units you want. Multiply that by 30 to see how many boyz you need.

Lootas get 15 if you want to field. They need stratagems to work so better to have 15 rather than 5 benefitting from them.

For green tide consider evil sun though. # of attacks is rarely issue with orks. Problem is getting there alive. Deep strike followed by 8" charge helps that one. For lootas you meanwhile want bad moons for the double shoot stratagem.

You will also need more grots as you want at least 2 battallions. Orks eat up CP so much even 2 battallion is light on CP. So you need 6 troop slots so 4 HQ+6 troops. The 1CP det's just don't give enough CP except maybe as 3rd for 14 CP which will be light.

Thanks for your help, p5freak & tneva82!

I made the following list based on your comments. As you can see, I have two battallions and an outrider detachment for lots of CP (14 total). Goffs for the Troops, Evil Sunz for the Fast Attack units. I decided to leave out a lot of the stuff that I bought. That's alright though - I just want this list to work, so I'm curious to hear what you think.

If you are hoping to be competitive you are going to have to go without the rukkatrukk. The model is awesome, but it is the same cost as a 4 big shoota battlewagon, and not only does the battlewagon have better firepower, but better toughness 7 more wounds and can transport a unit.

Take a battlewagon with deffrolla instead of the rukatrukk. The only unit in the codex that needs a point adjustment more is the stompa. The rukkatrukk is arguably 50 points overcosted.

Outside of that the list is good.

Since I assume you'll be Da Jumping those Boy Mobz, you'll probably want another Weirdboy for Warpath. Or spend a CP to get a Warphead.

Since your Boyz are Goffs, and you got a fair amount of CP (and a lack of shooters), spend 3 CP to make them all into Skarboyz.

This is up to you, but I think most lists tend to work best when they follow a "theme". Looking this over, it's hard to pin down a theme. You got 800 pts in Boy Blobs. You got a bunch of quick units. Then you got the Mork. I'm struggling to figure out if this is a CC list, or a speed list. You don't really have enough firepower for it to be a shooting list.

Hey flandarz. Those are great suggestions. Thanks a lot.

I see your point about the theme. I'm not a competitive player. I play casually with a group of friends and amongst ourselves we can field nearly any army in the game except for T'au (I will be the first Ork player in the group though). As such I needed this list to be a "backbone", a start for a bigger Ork army. Something to expand upon in the future. I usually modify my list depending on the mission and my opponent. The first opponent I could be facing could be either Tyranids, Necrons, Adeptus Mechanicus, Imperial Guard, Space Marines or Eldar. So I figured I needed something flexible. In general though, my thought for this list was as follows: the fast attack units provide distraction and are a problem my opponent needs to deal with straight away. This gives my my boy blobs time to move up the table, they are the big green fist that will hopefully give the punch I need to K.O my opponent. Meanwhile my Gretchins can camp on objectives and I brought the Mork to deal with any heavy armoured units I couldn't deal with otherwise. So yeah, if I had to give you a theme for this list it would be flexibility. I know there is a risk that by trying to do too much I'll do nothing right. I guess I chose to play Orks for two reasons: Speed Freeks and huge mobz, so that's what I went for. Or do you think I should lose the Mork?
