Someone at my shop was talking about the state of the rules for BB being a bit of a mess and the printed books being of limited value because of errata-cide; how much veracity is there to their claim? Are the printed books not worth the time because the majority of the information is out of date?

It depends on what your league commissioner is using. If you are using the hardback almanacs, you will be fine with most groups.

I guess it would be prudent, in that case, to start building a community so we can decide what to use.
Are the printed rules broken, or not? Have they been errata'd in to oblivion? Are they fine enough?

Books are good.
For core rules, the rulebook in from the starter box is severly tampered with to fit the "demo" mode based on the box content. Which means simplified and limited list of skills, kick-off table etc.
The rest of the books are actually very good! The Deathzone Season books had some silly mistakes at launch (like wood elf line costing 7k instead of 70k), they are outdated, so grab the Almanacs instead. They have the corrections updated in them. I'm not aware of much if any mistakes or later updated/FAQ'ed/errata'ed stuff there.
The only "problem" is there's so much stuff now. It's insane the amount of additional content each team gets. Pitch/weather rules, star players, inducements, wizards, special balls, cards ++. Most of it (not all!) is however usually summarized in the Almanac books.
Has anyone actually found a single piece of rule from the Almanac books that's been changed afterwards?
The books and rules for Necromunda on the other hand is a complete mess and most of the books there are complete garbage.

Thanks, Baxx! That was a helpful bit of knowledge you have dropped on us. I may have to see about ordering an almanac.
Spike will have special rules and Star Players, if I am not mistaken? It may be worth picking up, if you want to expand your Halfling team.

Anyone still use the living rulebook online? It’s free and has all the teams and skills in there.

From theNAF.net? I keep a copy on my tablet, but prefer to use printed rules (most modern available) when playing pick up games.
Would I be wrong in assuming that RAW is perfectly fine for farting around and the living rulebook would be good for veterans in a league?
