So today, I practiced a little bit before my game of tomorrow, against the well named undying
DG !
I can't believe it took 80 punisher shots, 36 heavy bolter shots and 19 battle cannon shots, by a tank commander and a leman russ, to take one foetid bloat drone down, and that is about average statically speaking !
And I didn't remember they hit so hard
My list:
His:
So, we rolled the 6th mission of the
CA, "débarquement" in French (landing). We had the diagonal deployment, and this is a picture of it:
His
We can't really see it but in his building there are 20 cultists, the objective and a chaos lord. In the land raider there were two characters and 7 plague marines.
Mine
My objective is under the heavy weapon team, deep into my zone on the 1st floor of my building.
I couldn't hide all my tanks as I wanted to, unfortunately.
I didn't steal the initiative and so it beggins.
T1 He made everything moving my way, and his rhino came real close to my right flank, close to my warlord company commander.
Using both of his dreadnoughts and some firepower from his crawlers, he destroyed one of my leman russes and put 3 wounds on my vanquisher tank commander. In addition, he killed all of the stormtroopers and a few guardsmen standing nearby.
He passed his -1 to hit psy power on one of the crawlers
My turn, I "move shoot move" my vanquisher and with a little help from the autocannons team, he took it down. My left flank leman russ give some trouble to the drone, about 4hp.
We can't score before T2 but I make my guardsmen advance to be in position on the objective on T2. My hellhound advance with them and is protected by its smokes and the -1 to hit power, so -2 to hit.
T2 He blowed up the hellhound (killing some guards) with his land raider and killed my vanquisher just with the crawler's mortars... and destroyed a full squad of advancing guardsmen. The land raider heavy bolter and the crawler machine guns combined with a few bolter rounds took care of them.
My poor russ !
I choose to make more guards advance and to bring my officer and his squad on my left flank, as his land raider was coming to the objective and I couldn't let him took it. They are almost on The objective. In addition, my stormtroopers and my veterans in ambush arrived on his left flank, ready to steal his objective. Was the tide of the battle changing ?
NO !
Using my last 2 leman russes, I finally destroyed the bloat drone and my autocannon team kept doing nothing. The veterans arrived at 9" of the
DG, but advanced using the tallarn rules to their advantage, to be in melta range. So using 3 melta, one plasma pistol and 2 plasma guns from the stormtroopers they took about 6
hp out of a crawler. Damned !
The rest of the (hot shot) lasguns killed a full 10 men cultists squad, The other veteran squad and stormtrooper team killed 5 death marines of the 7 that were on my right flank.
Beggining of my turn 2.
T3 He made the heavy flamer guy disembark from the land raider toward my veterans, and the marines + the grenades guy on the objective. The deamon prince is still among the vehicles, to give them reroll to wound. The two surviving plague marines assaulted my tech priest but failed to wound, and weren't wounded. He was still on my right flank after the destruction of the two leman russes he was supposed to repair.
He casted -1 to hit on his marines, then shot a quad of vets and one of stormtroopers his cultist and plagueburster weaponry, He finished the half squad of guardsmen (that took some hits from the hellhound) that was almost on the objective, and severly wounded my tank commander.
My turn, I made my assassin deep strike 4" from his chaos lord. My surviving vet and stormtroopers close to his objective, the melta vet advanced.
My guardsmen and the officers encircle the marines, ready to shot and charge (and thus, stealing the objetcive because I'm more numerous and denying him
VP).
My tank commander and my guards shot his -1 at cover marines and did nothing or maybe one dead.
My vet scored 3 melta hit, but failed to wound... The stormtroopers destroyed the last cultist squad, except for one guy who still hold the objective. My assassins did 3
MW to the chaos lord.
Assault, and the assassin killed the chaos lord, giving me one
CP. The tech priest killed on of the marines and was wounded once. My surviving cyclop assaulted the plague marines: too far away to explode, but close enough to lock them in assault.
T4 The deamon prince came to the assassin, ready to avenge the chaos lord, and nothing else really moved. He destroyed the last leman russ, one squad of guardsmen, the veteran with the heavy flammer guy and the stormtroopers with the plaguebursters.
In assault, he killed the assassin and failed to kill the cyclop.
I disengaged the cyclop, going among the land raider, the plagues and the dreadnought.
I shot at the objective holding marines with lasguns and one died of smite.
Everything charged the plague marines, and did 0 wound. I killed about 3 guards, so now he was more numerous and could keep scoring
T5 He brought the deamon prince back to the middle of his troops, and that's it. He shot the cyclop, and it put some
MW, killing one or two marines, and killed the tech-priest. During assault, I lost one comissar.
I finally succed in destroying the squad, but my own squad of imperial guards is destroyed too.
We decided to call it a day ("if you roll so poorly tomorrow too, that's gonna be quick

).
MVP: the tech priest was so fun. I forgot to make him repair, but then he killed two plague marines and survived his encounter, I was happy for him (until the last round....).
For him I would say definitely the crawler. They pack a lot of
AT AND anti troops weaponry. And don't need
LOS. It's crazy, he killed one tank and one squad a turn, even when hidding !
Overall I'm pretty happy with this list, my first game in 8 months, so I did a few errors (I wasn't allowed 3 turns of psy powers because "they are before the shooting phase"

and I think 3 smites and 6 psy powers such as -1 to hit or +1 save would have VERY handy on this game...) but the spirit of the list, the orders and the mobility were really here and working. I didn't felt "reign of confusion", pretty useless even when I used the stratagem to use it again, because you need a 4+ and I rolled this high only once during the first turn, but I liked how she popped and killed the (poorly equipped) chaos lord. But she couldn't stand a deamon prince and that's okay for a 85 model haha !
I wanted 6 squads, but I didn't have enough model at home so I had to give equipment to my characters and 1 more stormtrooper in each team (teams of 6) instead. That's the first time I play without the heavy weapons in the infantry squad and I must say I prefer this way, I can be more mobile. I could easily find the points for a lascannons team, that I really need, I think.
I really hope I will roll better in a few hours !
