The grim dark future of the 41st Millennium is coming to live-action television for the first time—and Games Workshop has recruited the creator behind Amazon’s Man in the High Castle adaptation, Frank Spotnitz, to do so.

I am super happy they're going the Inquisitor route. It gives them a lot more to work with narratively speaking and they can still showcase all the different subfactions in the Imperium in manageable slices, including their poster boys, spehss mehreens, without them overstaying their welcome or having issues with power scaling like they did in the SM movie. It also makes it a lot more accessible to people not steeped in the lore. Now we only need them to go full ham and do a proper KOTOR-esque Inquisitor RPG game.

I'd be more excited, but I'm still amazed it took them this long to get their IP in the hands of anyone who could be called "remotely capable."

Perhaps "How can we market our IP effectively with a marketing budget of zero dollars" stopped being an extremely bizarre point of pride for them.

This'll be a must watch for me.

Hopefully it'll be awesome, as if they screw it up it'll be more damaging. I'm looking forward to the possible increase in models for inquisitorial armies, or even RPGs or Kill Team or Blackfortress.

I'd be interested in this. . . but I shall hold any excitement in check until such a time as they announce where the show will air. . . Will it be an over the air network channel (could be good for exposure, bad for content)? Will it be HBO (would be a fitting channel for the 'proper' grim-dark setting. . . and you just KNOW they'd wantonly throw BEWBS in for giggles)? Will it be produced through Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon (well, I currently only have Prime, and don't foresee ever going for either Netflix or Hulu, so that's a 66% chance of having a major bummer)?

HBO would be perhaps the ideal platform. They've got both the money and willingness to go whole hog on the setting, though GW has been trying to be more family friendly lately so that might not happen.

I'm surprised they're going with lie action. Will all the full CGI shorts being made by fans, I would have thought that GW would have gone that direction as well.

Ask yourself: have you rated a gallery image today?

While it is live action, I expect it will have a lot of CGI. And I think mixed CGI/Live Action is better overall because you get real acting, which can be tough to get with pure CGI.

I'm expecting practical effects enhanced with CGI, over a lot of green screen myself.

This. . .

My "expectation" would be a practical effect for things like guns and splodey things, but when Eisenhorn walks into a harem of Slaaneshi Daemonettes, they'd likely be motion capture or some other similar form of heavy CGI (having watched a number of special features on blu ray movies, it seems that most actors/actresses preferred having the voice actor sitting approximately where the CGI character is (a la, Groot), so that they get a "real" interaction with the character even though it is ultimately a CGI animation.
