Since my regular opponents are starting up Tau and Orks (one of which I was going to start... someday) I decided to mix up our gaming options a bit and start painting my Eldar.

I don't want to paint up a more well-known craftworld, so I whipped up these options in Photoshop to help me decide. I'm hoping to avoid the major 5 so I can play around some with the new Eldar codex options until I find something that works for me.  I'm leaning towards an Iyanden-stlye Ghost Warrior army, so I want to make sure the color scheme works with that.

What do you think?  A, B, or C?

C looks different, since purple isn't a color you see too often. but I think all of them are too dark

I like C the most, being a fan of leach purple, but I think A might be your best bet as it stands out more and is a little brighter than the other 2

While I like them all, dark, cool colours on black = no as far as I'm concerned. Black and red's a popular scheme choice for good reason too. I'd say go with B, but brighten up the colour a shade or two.

I'd also stay away from the silver trim on the helmet and shuriken catapult. Silver and bone/white are too similar to really stand out from each other. Though I gather you're going to blackline those parts on the final product, which might make the two parts pop a bit more.

I vote B. Well Turtle said the Black and Reds are popular but brighten it up. I agree its popular but the brighter red is. The red and Black of choice B looks good but still gives a little difference from everybody else. Plus my friend does C exactly so I like something different but stylish. Just my 2 cents worth.

I kind of like C myself. Though I do agree that brightening it up might not be a bad idea if possable. The only reason I don't say B is because Red and Black are pretty much the default color for any army It looks good on anything but I prefer something different. A looks cool too but not as cool as C or B in my opinion.

Thanks for your comments, lads.

So it seems that the scheme is reasonably well-recieved, but it can use work.
I was thinking about different ideas based on talking with some firends, and while red and black does work well, you see it a lot.  It works, yes, but it's a bit more common, and I don't know about a primary or dark red being a very Eldar-esque color.

So I worked out this scheme instead, and I think it has the strength of the red but feeling more alien and unique to the eldar. I added a couple more color areas as well to brighten it up a bit.

Turtle - yeah, the silver/bone thing ain't working, I just hadn't changed that part of the pic.  I don't know if I'm going to use any metal colors in the army, actually.  A dark bone color should work for gemstone bezels and such.

So, is this scheme better?  A bit more different from the rest?

Yeah, man that looks nice. I'm not one for the bone weapons but that looks freaking awesome.

Dear Whiny Space Marine Players,
you get 3+ armor saves on all your troops (save scouts), Assault cannons, a huge assortment of vehicles and weapons, arguably one of the best if not THE best tank in the game, funny helmets, and a partrige in a pear tree.

suck it up, space marines. You're the emperor's chosen superhuman warriors. stop whining like a guardsmen and take it like a superman!

I like this most recent one the best as well.  It is as close as you can get to pink without actually getting to pink, and it looks great!  One suggestion though, and that is to paint the helmet (the part that isn't the face) black rather than bone.  The additional contrast will look better, in my opinion.

I like this fourth color scheme, but you should do the "face" of the helm in black, as it seems more fitting. Also, you may want to consider that it seems a bit more "dark eldar" for some reason.

Option 4 is great, bits of B and C. Very intersting look and the highlights are done beautifully.

Now you just have to paint an entire army like that! lol

Thats where i normally fall on my own sword. I'm having the same issue with my Shas O R Myr, picked a really pretty colour scheme but woke up in a cold sweat when i realised that i still had an entire Tau army to paint!

I like option 4 best. What would you say to having the gun the same colour as the undersuit?

Dangit, just when I thought I had my own army scheme figured out, I had to go and see this....
I agree with those who've opted for option D (4).
Though, I'd really like to see a truely painted model, and I'd like to know what color(s) you'd use to get the effect.

I like B the most, the main body just needs to be a bit brighter. D(4) is good too.

Thanks for your input, everyone. I've pretty much settled on D, the last one. I have been mucking around with some paint, and I should have a painted guardian or two to show the real world application. The color of the armor is somewhere between D and B, so it's a reddish purple. I'm still experimenting, so we'll see what transpires.
