Hi!
I've been playing for four months, against myself, in a small country town - don't know if anyone here plays or not. But I focus mainly on painting, writing a story, and then re-enacting pivotal battles of that story to see what happens and let it grow from there.
Anyway - beside the fact that I am so very lonely (lol) I have just got myself some Jackals and an Alphus with the intention of running the Alphus as the protagonist of my next story, set in a Hive-City, a space port, running Urban Conquest.
I wanted my Genestealers to infect the police of the city. I'm a big Judge Dredd fan, and the pull of a Hive-City being like Mega-City One was too hard for me to resist, and I loved the idea of making my Genestealers into the police. I did a bit of reading and found the Adeptus Arbites (and their Judge Dredd influence). But I didn't want to just run a Dredd army in another Mega-City One on another planet. Nor to force Arbites things on the Genestealers. I wanted to make the Genestealers unique. I wanted them to change the structure of the city's legal system into the structure of the cult. So I can also stay with the Genestealer's codex.
The concept is meant to be that the city is threatened by many different sources constantly, and by the crime that infests the city as well. So the Patriarch, in order to protect itself also needed to protect the city it had infested. It either 1 - chose to protect itself by infecting the legal system of this planet, or 2 - by the cults actions to protect itself, also became the legal system of this planet.
Basically, its a struggle for survival story. Keep the cult alive. Keep the city standing to keep the cult alive. Which then turns the Jackal Alphus into the city's accidental hero. I've made the Alphus a special agent for the legal system who is employed by the city to roam it on his bike taking the law into his own hands. Meanwhile, he is studying the cityscape for sniper locations and then striking the enemy of the cult from there. The combination of the two roles turns him into a vigilante character, who has a police costume for a disguise, and who saves the cult members that can't protect themselves.
So I'm leaning toward a pre-established legal system the cult hides in.
My question is: Does anyone have any interesting ideas for the other models in the genestealer army that could fit into this story? If the entire Arbites/Other-police are infected and changed to be a police force that resembles the genestealer codex, then what would the different model's day jobs and cover be? Like, the kelermorph for example? And - how do I fit the monstrous generations of cult members into this system? Or do I just have the neophytes as the police and have them guard the monstrous generations from discovery?
Meanwhile, the Ultramarines and the Death Guard are running rampant. The Death Guard are trying to destroy the city, I was thinking of also writing them in as the crime of the city that the Alphus needs to protect the city from, not sure. But the Ultramarines are helping the Law save the city from the Death Guard, while at the same time threatening to uncover the cults existence. Any ideas on this?
Also, any ideas on how I would paint my Genestealers? I'm in the process of experimenting with an Arbites influenced paint theme for the Alphus right now, but my planet doesn't need to have an Arbites police force. It could have its own legal system separate from that, right? Perhaps one which is much more malleable by the cult, and that would mean that the very 'grass roots' look of the genestealers and their model's weaponry could fit into this very rustic police force of the planet i've invented - - not sure.
