I managed to get ahold of one of the old Armorcast Baneblades, thanks to my friend who managed to accidentally get himself two (bought one on Forgeworld after he thought he'd lost the auction for the old Armorcast model on eBay).

Having no intention of playing an army associated with the Imperium of Man, of course, I have set about converting this model to the affiliation of the traitor Space Marine legion of the Death Guard, in the service of the Chaos God Grandfather Nurgle.

This is all I've done so far - the center body has not been glued to the main hull, the tracks and wheels have not yet been set up, so most of the tank comes apart (as it will when I prime it).

Yes, those are the old-skool Nurglings. I think I managed to snag one or two blisters of them. I plan on adding some more before I prime it.

Notice how the old Armorcast model substitutes a Battle Cannon for the hull-mounted Demolisher Cannon. Also missing are any twin-linked heavy bolters, instead having a single heavy bolter turret and six individual bolters (not heavy!) studding the side sponsons. The coaxial weapon for the main turret Battle Cannon is a lascannon rather than an autocannon, interestingly enough.

I'm planning on getting a Chaos hatch sprue or some other type of bitz sprue that would be appropriate. The oozing plague slime of doom doesn't seem like quite enough to make it truly Chaotic. Any model I could buy that would give me a fine selection of bitz?

This is my first major project of any kind - the Chaos Space Marines in my Death Guard will soon receive a similar Green Stuff treatment (actually the Havoc Squad is converted, with jerry-rigged arms holding melta and flamer weapons, but that was out of necessity rather than luxury).

Any hints, tips, or advice of any kind would be greatly appreciated. I'd hate to waste an expensive tank on a silly project that I couldn't follow through on...

EDIT: Image host changed to The Man (IE Photobucket)

Wow I havent seen one of those in ages!

Its a nice idea. You could even use this to represent a land raider in a chaos Army, or a corrupted baneblade/leman russ in a Traitor Guard force.

I would look to forgeworld for Chaos Symbols and doors. They have some lovely nurgle ones, they are for Marine tanks but with a bit of work could be made to fit to that kit. Also as its chaos and very old/without correct repair materials, you can easily justify this as battlefield repairs or customisation.

With regard to green stuff, this looks okay. Also have you tried making little pus craters on random points? Just take a small ball of greenstuff, push in the middle with a broken toothpick and use a scapel blade to pull the edges out and add some detail. You can get very effective boils and pus techniques with things like this. Also you could try using crystal resin for slime bubbles, then either mix ink into the mixture or paint over it.

I'd be tempted to add some skeletal parts or random plague zombies maybe coming out of open hatches. However dont go too over board on the surface details as it could ruin the end result. Dont foget that you can do a lot with the paint job as well.

By the way try to avoid the thumb prints on the green stuff. Smooth this over with a wet sculpting tool with a little warm water. Alternitively use a latex glove whilst pushing the bits into the tank. This will allow full finger contact and no finger prints.

Good luck and I look forward to seeing some more pics soon!

Geocities is probably either disallowing the external image views or I've exceeded my bandwidth usage...I'll fix it in a few!

That's how Armorcast made 'em back in 1990.

Kind of convenient for me...My friend's brand-new Forgeworld Baneblade is slightly different - no crazy arrow spikes, a few more accessories, plus the different weapon setup. The actual body is the same length but the engine compartment extends back a little further so it looks larger.

I covered over all the Imperial insignia, put lots of three-blob Nurgle marks on it, and it feels like it's almost done already! Just need lots of spiky bitz and suchlike.

I've uploaded the files to a different host - the dial-up ISP we've been with for the last eight years.

I have it with me today at the Friendly Local Game Shop, and I might even get some actual work done on it...

Okay, follow-up, I finally registered at Photobucket; I may try hosting the files on one of the work servers if I get around to it (I moved them all downstairs into a server closet). This should stay online, sorry guys.

Damn you, I was about to do this same project.

Replace the lascannon sponsons with the chaos barrels from the vehicle accessory sprue.

Dr Faust has a Chaos baneblade you could look at for ideas.

I don't have a vehicle accessory sprue. I need to get that and the generic Chaos spiky bitz...before I prime! I hope I have the patience. Hmmm...I'm thinking I could stick some of my spare shoulderpads onto the base of the gun barrels (heavy bolter, lascannons), but most of my other bitz seem to be pretty much worthless for this project. I enjoyed the pictures of Doctor Faust's Chaos Baneblade but it's much more generic than what I'm shooting for, at least in colourscheme. Some of his bitz were very creative but I don't think he was selective enough (he didn't file over/greenstuff any of the Imperial emblems, and he used an Orky Nob banner). I'll definitely have to be studious in painting the trim and rivets (for the wheels, a light drybrushing might be enough to catch the rivets without having to dot each one individually). My colour scheme is going to be Tin Bitz for trim and Scorpion Green for the base with rust spots of Graveyard Earth, perhaps.
