IIRC, the Brood Brothers rule specifically forbids you taking AM specialist detachments.

I remember reading something to this effect too, but it is in neither the Vigilus Defiant or the Genestealer Cult FAQ.

It's in the main GSC codex. I don't have it in front of me, but it's in the same section that tells you that your Astra Militarum detachments give half CP.

From GSC codex
..."You cannot include ASTRA MILITARUM named characters in these Detachments, and these Detachments cannot be Specialist Detachments"
