Is there any way to change the models?
power fists on very small units that are not build for CC are a waist of points. (if you get assaulted usually every one dies and your not going to get to hit back with the power-fist . )

same goes for lightning claws the Lieutenant already has a reroll to wound so a power axe or fist would make more sense then a lighting claw
and terminator armor on the captain. i would give him a jump pack and also the captain has the best BS of the army and he has a bolter.... these are the guys you give combi weapons because they hardly miss.

well this list play's its self just castle up everything in the reroll bubble and AT ALL TIMES in case one of your tanks or dreads blows up. the back lash could shower your army in mortal wounds. and then its game over.

I can say from experience that it isn't the most competitive list

It's more of a homage to my 1st edition Rogue Trader days, hence the loadouts.

I could swap out units to make it more competitive I suppose, but I shan't be modifying any of the miniatures as they're all painted. One thing I've been toying with is getting a squad of Aggressors - but they're a bit, well, Primaris.

My more competitive 8th edition army is Chaos Knights (I just posted that list here), but I do still have a soft spot for classic marines...

If you don't like aggressors then get centurions. Similar playstyle.

Any suggestions for a unit to take this list up to 1000 points?

The main advantage of the small marines is the ability to take jump packs on CC units, and drop pods for devastator squads. I would recommend something along those lines.

As you’ve been playing your list at 800 points, have you noticed any gaps or shortcomings? It’s pretty balanced, so there shouldn’t be anything glaring. You’ve got one of each FOC slot (love to see that from Ultramarine lists) and a good balance of anti horde/AV firepower.

To keep with the old school theme, I’d look at the old school units. Three that lead to mind:

Get Chronos a better ride. Auto/Las pred is nice and flexible, but the other options have merit.

A squad of terminators to back up the captain. (I’d go classic tactical terminators)
A squad of vanguard vets to hang with the LT. (assault marines are more classic, VVs are generally better)

It always bugs me in a list to have a HQ and not have a similarly geared squad. Terminators should have a squad, jumpacks, bikes, foot, as well. This was more relevant when characters joined squads, but old habits die hard. Either of these squads will add some mobilty to your list, with some DS options. Also, some chop which can be handy to have.

Other options to fill points would be to boost your tac squads to 10 men, maybe get them a rhino.

II do keep coming back to the idea of a squad of Terminators...

You do what makes you happy. Termies may work at low point games, depending on the mission/opponent. Keep trying combinations and you tell us what works
